Progesterone treatment?

How has it been working out for you so far?

As previously said I’ve tried progesterone 3 times now. First time on its own.

Ii took i took it for 5 days and took 5-10mg transdermally. Progesterone had mixed effects.

It made me feel worse initially. I noticed slowing of facial hair growth, felt sleepy alot of the time. BUT erections were much stronger than before and the look of my penis varied immensely on it. At times it would be loose and as it once was with proper strong erections which only with cialis I have achieved. But then at times it would be as before and a bit lifeless. Libido reduced whilst on it. I noticed a rebound about a week after stopping it. First few days off it increased anxiety like feelings and then felt good for a bit.

I then tried it for two more days with selegiline. First day was the best day i’ve had in a long time and then the anti-androgenic effects kicked in again. But then I noticed that the type i had contained saw palmetto extract so i stopped. Also noted some slight puffiness of nipples that subsided after stopping.

This time I took a saw palmetto free brand and took about 5mg progesterone with 5mg seligiline (now reduced to 2.5mg). Initially brain fog improved and noticed everything was a bit brighter. Slightly better erections at first, better orgasms. Not as good though as the other brand of progesterone I used maybe due to a decreased dose or because this one is micronised and the other wasn’t. The other gave stronger erections but made me very tired. Penis also shrinks in a thickness sort of way with both when compared to before but erections when they happen are quite full. As treatment progresses though erections are becoming more infrequent.

5days in though and I’ve noticed my mood drop big time and now the anti androgen effects are getting worse. Sleep initially improved but now is less good. Some puffy nipples are starting to come back too. I think I might stop again and give myself a few weeks to recover.

So first time noticed sexual improvements but not so much mental improvements and second time mental improvements at first but not so much sexual improvement.

I suspect as studies show from progesterone withdrawal my anxiety symptoms to be worse over the next few days.

Hi 19,

Did seligiline have any effect on your sleep ? I read that it can mess up peoples sleep, I already cant sleep so I don’t think its good idea to try seligiline at the moment.

take it in the morning so no problems. Sleep has been deeper since starting both. Starting to get a bit worse now but more likely coz of the progesterone.

Does the drug give you any mental side effects ?

None to note so far. I started with jsut seligiline on its own and didn’t notice any problems.

I wonder if seligiline on its own over a long period would be beneficial.

I’m still on seligiline 2.5mg in morning.

Current regime:

Vit D 5,000 IU
Maca
Horny Goat Weed
Doxycycline 100mg twice a day
Tongkat Ali
Beta carotene
Vit B6
Zinc
Seligiline 2.5mg daily

Going to have a week off progesterone. The post progesterone anxiety has gone away again now. I do believe the action of progesterone does do something positive but there are potential negative side effects as mentioned previously. Its a puzzler.

19, I’m with you. Check out the post I have in other studies where researchers actually use finasteride to destroy the progesterone in cells! This is the smoking gun IMO

I’m trying Rhodiola Rosea, which is a MAO-A/MAO-B inhibitor (selegeline primarily inhibits MAO-B). (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19168123). Will stay on it for a few weeks to see the effects. I’ve already how it increases the “brain BPM”, but nothing major report yet on sexual symptoms.

Ok so i’ve been constantly taking 2.5mg selegiline every day and the following:

Vitamin D
Zinc
Magnesium
Vitamin C
Vitamin A
Vit B6
Niacin
Broccoli extract (sulphoraphane)
Fish oil
Progesterone 2.5-5mg on and off. I haven’t taken any in last week or so.
NAC
Vitamin B12
Metafolin

My symptoms have been very variable.

Positives:

Improved sleep
Improved dreaming
Increase in spontaneous erections
Increase in firmness of erections - this is the first treatment apart from cialis i have tried that has given this effect
Testicles at times hanging looser and looking more normal
Pre-cum has returned - didn’t really get much of this beforehand
Better orgasms

Negatives:

Fatigue particularly in the evening
Mental improvements are very variable
If i stay on progesterone for more than a few days - sleep worsens, penis narrows (albeit erections stay strong)
Mood fluctuant - weepy at times
Puffy nipples whilst on progesterone
Aching balls at times when off the progesterone
Libido initially on both was increased but then declined

Now i’m operating on the idea that progesterone metabolites by being upregulated can help repair whatever DNA damage that has occurred potentially through glutathione pathways. It ties into other previously proposed theories. Lack of glutathione is linked with DNA methylation changes.

Changes in allopregnanolone and progesterone and testosterone lead to changes in oxidative stress.

We also know that recovery is possible. I’m not saying that this is the cause of all our problems and only with further research could this be worked out but its an avenue to explore. So do donate to the foundation! What i am saying is that in the last month or so i’ve had my best and simultaneously my worst days in the 6 years that i’ve suffered.

Question is whether the benefits of the selegiline and progesterone outweigh the risks? I don’t know as of yet. Progesterone is antiandrogenic. Selegiline reduces the acton of LH on the testes. Progesterone increases prolactin and reduces the level of DHT in blood and brain. Both upregulate glutathiones action.

Selegiline in animals has been shown to extend lifespan. It also helps with DNA repair.

Lastly a note on exercise. Assuming there is (and of course i don’t have sufficient evidence to say) relevance to this idea it seems moderate exercise is good but overexercise is bad.

Anybody got any advice on a good online source of selegiline. I am in Ireland so cannot obtain it from the same source as lightattheend.
Thanks

I am going to use eurovital brand of progesterone… Has anyone any experience with this brand or would they recommend a different one (I cant get the biovea brand).

19, very interesting especially linking many things together. Wondering if you would do a regiment o the selegiline without the progesterone? Ihatepropecia took low dose Prozac for a bit and Light at the end took selegiline, others tough exercise. Wonder if the link is boosting dopamine levels.

would a product like this boost Dopamine levels?

19,

how long you´re on seligiline?

the only medicine that works with me is cialis and it´s clear
my problem is lack of blood circulation in the genital region.

Maybe the use of seligiline for a long period of time can heal this
problem.

it is obvious that progesterone cream has mixed results… Although it should (and most probably does) lower estrogen and by that cause a chain reaction- lower prolactin, shbg etc. some don’t experience any improvement. I think one explanation why isn’t it helping to everyone can be- progesteron inhibits 5ar. Of course, i know our state is much more complicated than that but i think this scenario can be the case among some of us. So, enzyme has been partially recovered somehow ( i judge this by amount of hair-loss i’m experiencing) but progesterone inhibits that again. Also, isn’t it possible that progesterone dropped because organism was trying to keep some of 5ar alive ?

I would like to hear some opinion on this. Maybe some of us should include (along with progesterone cream) something that should raise 5ar, for example drug called “tribestan” which differs from most of tribulus brands by the amount of active ingredient it has, and if hair-loss is credible way of measuring- (in my case) this thing really works.

Ok, i also don’t really enjoy reading everyone’s theory on here, and that is why i’m planning to start with this protocol soon.

I’ve stopped both progesterone and seligiline for the time being. I haven’t taken progesterone for over a week and a half now and stopped selegiline a few days ago. Since then symptoms particularly mood has worsened a fair bit and sleepiness. i stopped as i didn’t feel seligiline was adding anything and since i’ve been experiencing low androgen status symptoms and there is some evidence saying selegiline decreases testosterone.

I want to see how i recover over the next few weeks before i will reconsider using either of them again. Overall the result has been mixed.

Has anyone seen an increase in testicular size with the progesterone cream + deprenyl treatment at all by any chance? Or for that matter any improvements to semen volume etc… specifically referring to physical sexual symptoms of PFS.

If so how many months before you really noticed any changes?

the progesterone cream is dangerous, best keep away from it mate,it made me a lot worse and gave me sides I never previously had,it gave me really bad pain in my balls,my hair became very brittle and quite a bit fell out, sexual problems got worse, mental problems got worse,i became very jittery, hands shaking etc, after reading this thread I thought maybe id found the magic bullet for pfs, what a mistake, its taken me about four months to recover from it…
