What is currently termed Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) is a distinct, rare and widely variable clinical entity as supported by academic publications, scientific data and recent literature reviews. The root drivers of the condition and what predisposes a small percentage of users to PFS are yet to be scientifically explained.
This is a place for patients suffering persistent health problems despite cessation of Finasteride or other substances with anti-androgenic action. This is not a hair loss forum nor a forum for current users of Finasteride experiencing side effects. Please treat this discussion forum with the same respect you would a public park or library. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share experiences and ideas, with the objective of getting the upper hand on PFS. Additionally, propeciahelp coordinates projects with the aim of advancing clinical, scientific and public awareness of the condition.
The following community rules aim to ensure propeciahelp.com remains a valuable resource and welcoming community for all PFS patients. These are guidelines to aid the human judgement of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilised discussion.
PFS is a very personal and even threatening subject for us affected patients. It is therefore often hard to keep an emotional distance with respect to the subject matter being discussed. You may wish to respond to a post with disagreement. That’s fine, but remember to criticize ideas and not people.
- Ad hominem attacks (attacking the person rather than the idea)
- Responding to what you might perceive to be a post’s tone instead of its actual content
- Knee-jerk contradiction
- making posts of a deliberately divisive nature
Instead, aim to provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
- Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
- Keep it clean. Even though we are talking about PFS, don’t post anything obscene.
- Respect each other. Don’t harass or grief anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
- Be empathetic. It is important to understand that PFS affects people to different degrees, and unfortunately some members are in an extremely severe condition. Not everyone’s experience or symptoms will mirror your own.
- Refrain from personal judgement. Do not attempt to place personal blame on other members for their persistent health problems.
These are not concrete terms with precise definitions; avoid even the appearance of any of these things. If you’re unsure, ask yourself how you would feel if your post was featured on the front page of the New York Times.
This is a public forum, and search engines index these discussions. Keep the language, links, and images safe for family and friends.
We welcome theoretical discussion or speculation, and simply request that it is clear from your post that you are presenting your opinion and the basis for that opinion. Contributors should refrain from making declarative statements regarding the etiology of PFS without significant and specific evidence. Take care not to present your ideas and experiences as definitive medical advice or diagnosis. Instead, try to provide information of what has worked for you, or others on this site.
As examples, instead of using definitive statements about the condition that can appear as factual claims such as “PFS is this”, “This will work every time” or “Do this and it will cure you”, consider using language such as “I believe…”, “You could try…”, or “This has worked for me”.
Recruitment of users to medical regimes or other websites is not allowed. Users have previously expressed concerns over the recruitment and potential monetisation of Propeciahelp members, so please do not link to external sites or forums even it appears easier to point to information hosted elsewhere. Instead, please share in your Member Story or the Therapeutic Efforts category precisely what brought you symptomatic improvement. This also ensures that collated information is not subject to loss following the closure of external sites and services.
Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up. So:
- Try to start your topic in the right category.
- Don’t cross-post the same thing in multiple topics.
- Don’t post no-content replies. Rather than posting “+1” or “Agreed”, use the Like button.
- Don’t divert a topic by changing it midstream. Rather than taking an existing topic in a radically different direction, use Reply as a Linked Topic.
- Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalize the forum. Pursuing commercial interests, be it through solicitation or posting sponsored links, is considered as spam.
Your participation counts. Help us make this a great place for discussion by always seeking to improve the conversation in some way, however small. One way to improve the discussion is by discovering ones that are already happening. Spend time browsing the topics here before replying or starting your own, and you’ll have a better chance of having a more focused and productive discussion. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and come back to it later.
The conversations here set the tone for every new arrival. Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum an interesting place to be — and avoiding those that do not.
Our forum software provides tools that enable the community to collectively identify the best (and worst) contributions: bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, and so forth. Use these tools to improve your own experience, and everyone else’s, too.
You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission. You may not post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.
Moderators are responsible for maintaining the forum, but so are our members.
When you as a member see bad behavior, don’t reply. It encourages the bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.
In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. The administrators and moderators of propeciahelp take no responsibility for nor endorse any content posted by site members.
This site is operated by the site staff and you, the community. If you have any further questions or suggestions regarding the sites features, open a new topic in the site feedback thread and let’s discuss! If there’s a critical or urgent issue with the site that can’t be handled by a post or flag, contact us via the staff page.
If you have a concern regarding site policy or a moderation decision, please send a private message to one of the administrators or moderators to discuss this further. Disagreements with moderation policy and decisions should not be aired on the forum and will be removed.
