How did you feel before starting?
A: Pretty blah. Was months after quitting Fin and some recovery had taken place. My recovery had plateaued: libido, energy, motivation were all low but not in crisis.
What did you take?
A: Androgel 5g daily.
How long did you take it?
A: Two months
What did you feel while taking it?
A: Slight improvement but not nearly as much as recovery as my blood tests seemed to indicate. Does this expose problems with the androgen receptors? I would say so.
How did it affect your symptoms?
For the first 1/2 months of treatment recovery, albeit moderate, was observed. Massive remission into full-blown PFS at 2 months into treatment.
1/2 months: Total sleep time increased, though REM sleep and dreams remained absent. Mild increase in libido. Increase in lean muscle and decrease of feminine fat
2 months: PFS returns with a vengeance. Chronic fatigue, insomnia. Impotence, penile fibrosis and loss of genital hair. Everything on this list: propeciahelp.com/symptoms. Worse experience than immediate post-fin era.
Did you have any blood tests done before/during/after and if so, what were the results?
Post fin/pre-TRT:
Total Test: 337 ng/dl
Free Test: 29.1 pmol/L (31 - 94)
Estradiol: 35 pg/mol
1/2 Months on Androgel:
Total Test: 651 ng/dl
Free Test: 69.5 pmol/L (31-94)
Estradiol: 29 pg/mol
*At this point, estrogenizing effects of androgel without AI become apparent and I am removed from TRT cold-turkey. Next several months saw a severe relapse into PFS hell.
Would you take it again?
A: I donât see as how I really have a choice. I realize now that for someone like myself with a battered HPTA, TRT is going to have to be approached with competence and comprehensiveness. This means HCG, testosterone, and an aromitase inhibitor. You need the golden trifectaâtestosterone as solo regimen is ineffective and possible ruinous.
What is your conclusion?
A: On the androgel my testosterone literally doubled. And, given that my mode of delivery (gel) was a fast-acting, short half-life medium, the remission of my symptoms ought to have been immediate and explicit. It was neither of those things. This disconnect between blood levels and subjective benefits exposes the role that malfunctioning receptors play in preventing you from fully realizing your TRT.
