Voice - back from Dr Shippen, updates

its hard to tell how my libido has changed because it goes up and down. I know at work the other day i had an erection pretty much all day. I think that maybe my libido could be in my head because my main deal is the fact that i feel nothing when i have sex. Which a strong libido could be a curse for me i would hate to be horny all the time if i could not get enjoyment out of sex. It would be like being hungry all the time but the food would have no taste.

I can relate to that, I think if you really think that this sort of thing is a problem for you there are therapists that specialize in this.

If youā€™re still nervous about things, Iā€™m thinking you can use a viagra just to make sure and make yourself remember the feeling again.

ya that isnt a bad idea iā€™ll ask my doctor about viagra. Iam not really to concerned about my libido and erections its the whole numbeness that i am worried about because there are not as many men with the numbness and lack of sensation compared to ED and low libido. Which means it is harder to treat because there is not a lot of material on it. Where as when i google ED you get pages apon pages.

as far as the drugs iam on not too much improvement and i seem to be getting fatter. I think its the naltrexone.

i have tried several drugs with no such luck my plan now is to see a pshchitrist dealing with sexual problems i 99.9 percent sure this is not in my head but there is that .1 percent

my advice to everyone is to try everything it cant get any worse for me so what do i have to lose

Perhaps you should discuss with the Psychiatrist how Finasteride may have messed up the brain, since it blocks neurosteroid production there ā€“ which may have long lasting effects on libidoā€¦ especially if you have tried other treatments.

Can you give us an update on what treatments you tried, and any effects experienced with each?

Thanks so much.

Yeah, I am also considering seeing a psychologist. But its ridiculous because we all know this is not in our heads. Just because we are not finding hard physical evidence, we are convinced by others that it must be mental.

Either way, I would consider seeing a sexual therapist or something just to discuss my anguish over the issue and try to come to peace with the situation.

I would definitely suggest trying to wear very loose fitting pants. Have you ever worn suspenders, if not, go buy a pair, start wearing loose wastebands, and prevent ANY blocking of blood flow and energy down in your waste region. it helps TREMENDOUSLY!!

Whenever I do have the numbness problem, which I do still have on occasion, I am able to relieve the tension and symptoms by wearing something loose, taking a hot bath, and getting away from stress.

**We have to give ourselves time for our hormones to equalize (hopefully they will for most after enough time) and our prostates to return to their normal working states.

Whenever I get frustrated I tell myself that probably this prolonged decrease in T levels just f-ed up my prostate and whole sexual functioning system back to the state at which is was probably pre-puberty, when Testosterone levels were low in young men and our sexual systems were not developed yet, but as we grew, oblivious to the facts of all these details, we were relaxed, we became more and more sexually curious, and our sexual systems developed, our prostates turned into fully sensitive, working, pumping glands, especially for those of us who masturbated a lot, and had sex with our first girlfriends. IT TOOK US MANY YEARS FOR OUR BODIES TO REACH SEXUAL MATURITY. It did not just happen overnight.

-It may be a slow and steady process, and you may not notice significant changes. Those of us who have cured also did not suddenly cure, it was a slow and gradual process, sensitivity slowly returned, prostates slowly felt better, discomforts slowly disippated, and ejaculate slowly returned to normal.
Its a work in process, whatever works for you. There is no magic cure. However I do know that a lot of your physical discomfort and sexual dysfunction is DEFINITELY prostate related. And if you donā€™t believe it then I donā€™t know who can help you. Because it is directly related to all these sensations and problems you are experiencing. Do not listen to oo many others who confuse you with so many other thoughts. YOU CAN CURE!

PLEASE READ THIS AGAIN any and all of you. This will help you I promise!

I am about to start experimenting with real herbal treatment programs from an experienced herbalist, while I continue to pursue Xyrem and some HRT which may and probably will help my plumbing get working more normally sooner, but in the time being I am trying not to let myself be around stress, because it just makes my buttocks and genitalia/lower-torso tighter and more stressed and less free flowing, and symptoms worse for me, and I am trying to keep my mind offf it, still treat the symptoms, and I TELL YOU. I HAVE SOME NEAR NORMAL DAYS! I have faith that this will lead me to success!

Peace, and good luck!

I am still working with doctor shippen with not so much luck i tried viagra recently to see if it would make my erections stronger. Yeah it deffiniatly did i had no problem performing, but i only tried it three times i figure whats the point in haveing strong erections if i cant feel anything anyway. Thats where all my focus is going now is trying to solve this anorgasm our whatever it is. I have tried countless drugs with neither negative our positive effects. currently i am on dht cream i will be on that for about two months. It did occur to me that maybe i am not giving these drugs enough time to kick in since i did not even get the side effects till about 2 months in with propecia. I also got my prostate checked and they did a urine and blood test it showed that i have no prostatisis our any kind of infection our cancer. The doctor i went to said it does seem to be a little large for my age, so i got a second opinion and the doctor said it was fine. I was wondering if anyone had seen a endocrinologist our a neruoligist and if that has helped

with me luck with dht

Voice, thanks for the update, we really appreciate the fact you take the time to let us know your progress with Dr. Shippen.

What do you mean by not being able to feel anything? Genital numbness/sensitivity loss, no ā€œhighā€ when you orgasm, or no libido?

You may be interested in this doctorā€™s request for Fin patients for a study on orgasm problems from Finasteride:

Interesting, let us know what effect it has. Iā€™m sure Dr. Shippen is aware that taking external DHT may have negative feedback on the HTPA and thus surpress Testosterone/LH production? If so perhaps itā€™s worth trying a trial of TRT + DHT at same time.

I would still try and see if you can get actual testing for 5AR2 enzyme activity in genital skin fibroblast culture, or test for androgen receptor mutation/binding ability with T & DHT. That may shed more light. Perhaps Dr Shippen may be able to order these types of tests?

Keep us posted.

the problem i have is that semen comes out when i have an orgasm but nothing else happens its like i am just taking a piss when i orgasm. I am not to worried about negative side effects with the drugs i am taking because i have a road map now i got a full hormone evaluation before i tried any other drugs cost like 1400 dollars to.

mew i was also interested in hearing an update from you since you our the founder of this website.

Voice,

No real update with me other than Iā€™m 3 years off the medication, working on another website, havenā€™t tried any treatments yet, and once the site is finished, plan to contact researchers to hopefully get insights into where the problem might lie. If no luck, Dr Shippen is my first choice.

There is also a possible Canadian class action lawsuit that needs more men to participate for it to be filed, as noted on www.propeciaclassaction.com.

But I donā€™t want to make this thread about me, itā€™s about your story and how you are doing. Cheers.

what are your side effects mew, and out of curiousity why havent you tried any treatment

This is an update of where i am at i have been working with Dr. shippen with no such luck so far. this is a list of what i have tried so far: bee pollen 500 mg, vitamin D, ogoplex aka ropes, maca 3, testosterone drops 25mg/ml, HCG injections into the stomach, selegiline 3MB/ML slowgel, clomiphene citrate 25mg then had that does doubled after two weeks, naltrexone 25MG, oxytocin 10u sr capsules i also tried kegel exercise which did shoot the load a little further otherwise none of this stuff had negative our positive effects. I also tried viagra to see if it would help erections and i had sex just fine i think my erections and my libido our low because i am so damn depressed about my sexual Anhedonia ( loss of sexual pleasure in orgasm) which i have decided to devote my time toward that side effect i am also thinking about starting up a new website fourm all about sexual anhedonia side effects from propecia. I would post a link on propeciahelp.com when it is ready. I am also going to check universities in my area to see if i can get a research center interested in our case that would be the best solution as well as the hardest one to achieve. I will be having another phone appointment with dr. shippen but the last thing he told me is that it was not looking to hopeful for me. He gave me DHT cream to try i did that for 6 weeks with no results i also tried quecertine 15mgs with no luck as well. There is another point of action i am going to try as well i am planing on seeing a hypnotheropist maybe it could help with orgasm our at least this depression. I am also going to see a integrative medicine specialist for a more natural approach, and i also stumbled across a website called www.bodylogicmd.com it seems like they specialize in andropause and menopause with older women and men which we all share similar side effects with. So i submitted a form into them and they gave me a call back i just have to get back to them but i will let you guys know if they help.

So thats where i am at right now pretty discouraged but i will not give up on this, because i wont live my life in this failed condition
keep going guys.

I was wondering if any one had that propecia interview on youtube from sweden translated

Hey.

Im sry you have not had any luck yet with various treatments, but hang in there as you said atleast you have not had any bad reactions either.
Could be a matter of time aswell so dont stop short.

As for translation of the video i allrdy did it once. Im not sure what more info from that video you are hoping for, i think i translated word for word more or less, will look at it.

Good luck.

It sounds like
#1) He didnā€™t, hasnā€™t, and could not have tried any treatments long enoughā€¦ And
#2) He is/has practically given upā€¦ And I donā€™t really like that! AT ALL!!! Sorry. And good luck to you too btw!

Voice,

This is my first post here, I appear to have fin induced anorgasmia along with finasteride induced adrenal fatigue and secondary hypogonadism (source on the later unclear). I took propecia for a few months in my late 30ā€™s and slowly tapered off in dosage as libido effects surfaced, now in my early 40ā€™s.

About a year ago while under treatment for adrenal fatigue ( low doses of cortisol/DHEA/prenenolone) along with topical T I had a few weeks of pretty intense orgasms. Unfortunately my treating doctor had no idea that most of my symptoms were fin induced, and I was taking a shotgun approach of supplements at the time that included L-tyrosine.

Anyhow, try L-tyrosine it usually takes some B6 to enhance absorption - also consider getting a cortisol profile done via saliva testing (zrt labs) note I am not a doctor.

ya i just started taking L-tyrosine yesterday hopefully that works i also just came back from a hypnotheropist but there was no real luck with that. I think my libido is getting worse and will not return till i get some pleasure in my orgasm it is very hard to stay positive video games, music and movies are getting stale but i will hold in there. I am glad to here that you are getting more intense orgasms, because anorgasm is very difficult to treat from what i here. I was wondering too whether taking L-tyrosine 500mgs is sufficient are should i bump up the dose.

Voice, I want to emphasize that Iā€™m not a doctor. That said, my reading on amino acid supplementation suggests should be done carefully, I would recommend reading Phyllis Blasch MDā€™s ā€œPrescription for Nutritional Healingā€ the current addition has an orange cover.

The key issue is that supplementing just one type of amino acid can cause deficiencies in other amino acids, so donā€™t go crazy on them. Also, you need to do it 8 weeks on then take a one month break type of thing if Iā€™m recalling correctly, see the book for better information.

Also, I have low T (170-350) /LH (0.8-1.5) / FSH (2.4-2.5) and you apparently do not from your blood thread (note some of the screenshots were awkward to read) so take this advice FWIW.

When I was feeling good (good orgasms, even a nocturnal emission for the first time in several years), I was taking two USP (U.S. Pharmaceutical grade) 500 mg L-tyrosine each day, that included 10 mg per capsule of B6 to enhance absorption at mid morning (after breakfast digested). I was also taking ~ 30 mg topical T (unlikely you would need the latter two based on the portion of your blood work I looked at and whatever Shippen thought). I consume a great deal of tre nuts which do contain Tyrosine well (1/4 lb/day of various types).

I have also had some luck with increasing erection strength through L-arginine supplementation, three 500 mg capsules at bedtime, no calcium bearing foods for 45 minutes beforehand. Have not tried to mix the two, and L-arginine supplementation is the more controversial of the two Iā€™ve tried thus far. Jonathan Wright (anyone been to see him?) author of Vitality and Potency discusses arginine supplementation in his book for ED, he is an MD in Oregon or Washington. I did this two weeks on two weeks off for 3 months with no other supplements besies Optizinc, so I can verify that it was effective in my case.

I jut saw a new (actually my first) endocrinologist today, picked a relatively young one; he had never heard of finasteride induced secondary hypogonadism and did not comment at all about anorgasmia (sigh). At least he is ordering more blood, seemed to agree I was hypogonadal, and is considering pituitary MRI. He was very much in the mode of ā€œgee you didnā€™t like Testim lets try Androgelā€ great suppress my HPTA some more as if fin were not enough. Sorry to vent - big pharma has these guys brainwashed at a young age.

was there a big improvement in orgasm like what percentage would you say. I was wondering too if maybe you had gotten some grey hair after taking the drug. Because that was one of my side effects and the more melanin present in the hair the more color your supposed to have. Melanin is a class of compounds found in the plant, animal, and protista kingdoms, where it serves predominantly as a pigment. The class of pigments are derivatives of the amino acid tyrosine, could be a link there.
