Very low Vitamin D??? My results

I went to a great endocrinologist and he gave me an insane panel of tests. Really covered every base you could cover. Pituitary, testosterone, thyoid, all fine. But I did have one abnormally low thing: Vitamin D. Most people are at 50, I’m at 10.

So I’m starting high dose prescription Vitamin D today. (50,000iu twice a week) and we’ll see if things perk up at all.

Maybe I’m just a freak of nature, but I’d be curious to see if any other guys are in the same boat. I certainly have never heard of a connection to the Vitamin D and Finasteride.

How is the Vit D working for you?

Well, I’m almost through my trial period of 2 months. And I can say that I do feel somewhat better, though not 100%. I’d say I’m somewhat better… which is great, but not where I was hoping to be at this point.

I have to go back to the doctor in a few weeks and get my blood retested to see if my D levels have risen enough. Sometimes it takes a good long while to get back where you need to be. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Just saw this thread and thought I’d mention that I had blood tests taken last summer, and while some values weren’t where they should be (low DHEA, zinc, T), the only thing that was low enough to get the attention of my clueless GP was Vitamin D.

Which was odd since I drink a lot of milk, like 2 gallons a week or more.

BUT for a long time it’s possible that I was not getting enough sunlight as well, although you don’t need much sun to get the required Vitamin D.

just thought I’d share this. Honestly I don’t think finasteride had anything to do with this, but you never know with this drug.

I had my Vit D tested before I fasted and it was in a nice healthy range. I tend to get alot of sun in the summer time for this reason alone. Sun, and Vit. D are very, very important to the endocrine system. I plan on getting my fill this summer as well.

Same thing here my vitamin D Level was 14.

Hi guys
I have recently measured my 25(OH)D3 (25 Hydroxycholecalciferol; calcifediol) level (VIT D) and the value is 9 ug/L (19-57).
I have osteoporosis and low free T, 3,8ng/L (8,8-27)
My Ca and P levels are always allright.
Do I have Hiperparatiroidism? I have no measured my PTH level.
I have started taking (hidroferol), vit D, to restore my level

Go outside for at least a half hour a day without a shirt on. If you start doing it now, you won’t burn in the summer time and will have a nice tan too boot. This is the best way to up your levels. Best part is, it’s free.

Thank you for your help, but I lived in Spain and as you know, we have a lot of Sun here. It is common in Mediterranean countries low VIT D levels in many people… contrary to Northern countries where the sun is less common than here.
My question looks for a connection with finasteride?

Just because you have sun there doesn’t mean you take advantage of it. Do you lay out? You need exposure.

I take sun bathing every day for an hour. I think it is clearly enough, isn’t it?

Yes. If you are eating a clean diet high in fruits and veggies, then yes, it is enough.

I have low vitamin D, around 10 points below what is considered the bottom of the acceptable range. I think this is something many of us have in common. I’ve been taking vitamin D every day for a while now and am hoping it will show up as a positive change in the next round of tests I do.

Have you noticed any changes in your health during the vit D intake? How is your bones, libido, weight…?

I haven’t noticed any changes in my health since I started taking vitamin D. I wish I had more positive news. I’ve been taking vitamin D for a few months now.

i think that add vitamin d could be right if you have it low,but the main question to do is why some have low vitamin d,where is this deficient from ?..maybe something that finasteride damaged …

vit d —>soak up the sun creates vit d ,look at your food intake

On the Vitamon D thing (I had been taking fairly high doses on recommendation of my doctor) I just came accross this collection of sites regarding the Marshall Protocol. See sarcinfo.com and related sites.

This group of doctors thinks that about 3% of the population is susceptible to what are called “Th1 inflammatory diseases”. In these disease states bacterial infections cause a rapid conversion of 25 OH D3 to the active metabolie, 1.25 OH, leaving you with low 25 OH and an excess of the 1,25 D active metabolite.

The problem is supplementing with 25 OH can shut down the conversion to 125 OH. You feel better but you still have the underlying disease. The Marshall Proprtcol has specific antibiotics tht can be used to cure you.

One of these Th1 diseases is candidia . . . sound familiar anyone?

Bottom line - get serum 1,25 D and 25 OH D3 done at the same time and make sure they freeze the sample. Do this BEFORE supplementing vitamin D. Then look at the ration between 1,25 D in pg/mL and 25 OH on ng/mL (1,25 divided by 25 OH). If it is greater than 2 then you need to find a Marshall Protocol doctor and do NOT go on Vitamin D supplements.

I had my vitamin D tested again and it’s the same piss poor result I got last time. This is despite living in south florida and getting lots of sun exposure and taking 1,000iu vitamin D. I don’t get it. Maybe 1000IU isn’t strong enough? My doctor is going to send me a supplement to help me out that maybe better than the healthfood store stuff i was taking before.

I am taking Hdroferol 0,266 mg, of Calcidiol, vit D3 (16.000 UI) every 2 days since June and I have no measured vit D yet. I hope my level goes up clearly but…who knows…
What do you think about the dose I am taking? Isn’t it high?
