tinnitus, the yahoo forum?

Hello everybody…

well, I started this tread what seams to be a long time from now. I have not been on Propecia since, thats about 4-5 years from now.

My Tinnitus is still there and have gotten worse on my right ear. My eustachian tubes are closed(so I can’t "blow air out of my ear), Ive been to the doctor but he could not do anything he said, so I’am happy to hear about this GUAIFENEX, one thing though I had my inner ear pressure checked, and it was ok. I’ll ask him about this GUAIFENEX or MUCINEX OTC, and hope he will give it to me…

spinuup : red wine is known to give tinnitus for a lot of peoble, I am on some tinnitus forums now, and its talked about often. I think your storry is a bit like mine, I remember hearing bells when I was young and before Propecia, but not in the way I do now, now its very loud, and Iam pretty sure that Propecia set it off, stupid me#¤%"#

arvidnilsen: hello old buddy, I wrote you a mail a year ago, hope you got it, we been “here” for a while now lets still keep updating each other, you still got my mail add?

I got some mails. I though I have answerd them.

Yes, we are still suffering here to but… I looked into some tips that they have used anti-depressiva to help tinnitus. Look at some tinnitus articles here (norwegian text): dagbladet.no/dinside/2005/11/22/450130.html

I wonder if we should test it ?

My tinnitus has gone down quite a bit lately , but not back to
pre-propecia levels. Mucinex relieves sinus pressure and “thins”
the mucous so that it flows more easily through the eustachian tubes. You
can buy this any place they sell over the counter sinus drugs. Also,
SALINE NASAL SPRAY you can buy under the “Equate” brand at Wal Mart is cheap and has been working for me. My eustachian tube disorder
was pretty bad but has been slowly resolving. I think the mucous
becomes so thick it backs into the ear canal and exacerbates pre-existing tinnitus or so it seems in my case. I started taking xanax recently
and the T has gone down considerably. I don’t even begin to
understand the relationship but something is working here…Glad
for any relief ! I quit drinking period. Not that I drank a lot before.
But anything that aggravates the T I’m not interested in. Good luck to all !

Hello

I tried with 2(zoloft/ciprelex) different brands of anti-depressiva, and it only made it worse. all brands where ssri’s, only thing my doctor would give me, If you google your anti-depressiva + side effects its very hard to find some that does not have Tinnitus on the list, anyway I think Its worth a try, don’t get scared if you Tinnitus goes crazy, it will settle again when you stop or your body gets used to the drug.

Gaba or 5 htp seams to work for me better, some studies has been done

I take 100 mg pr day with a multi B, very important to remember the B, the reason I am here now is that I cant not get gaba from shops in DK and I waiting for my supply from england.

good luck to all

Hi!

After a lot of testing I think the cause is that I have high progesterone and cortisol. I have to work with this I think. Any suggestions ?

Tried GABA but not with any good results.

Hey guys, I feel like I know a couple of you after reading and re-reading posts. Thanks for creating this thread.

I took finasteride for 16 months, then stopped because my tinnitus was growing louder week by week. It scared me. Every time I got back from a night out I laid awake wondering how much irreparable damage I had done to my ears. I started using earplugs everywhere outside of the office, on boats, in movie theaters, in bars. I hadn’t thought there was a connection between tinnitus and finasteride until I read about it on this thread.

I stopped taking finasteride three weeks ago. Immediately the type of tinnitus I hear changed. It’s now a lower volume, I can think about other things at night, but it’s still there.

Here’s my concern: Tinnitus is caused by permanent damage to the follicles in your inner ears. Finasteride definitely increased my awareness of that damage, my tinnitus was louder while I was on the drug. But the ringing in my ears is much louder now than it was before I was on finasteride.

Can finasteride accelerate the rate at which you accumulate permanent hearing damage from noise exposure? Maybe through inflammation, but that’s a guess. I definitely lost high frequency hearing, and gained tinnitus, while I was on finasteride.
