tinnitus, the yahoo forum?

Hello, Ill try to find a link to you, what I read eas that in some contrys it say so on the box that contains regaine/rogaine, in my contry its sold as rogain, and I dont remember i say : not to use if you got rinning ears, but it does that on some Minoxidil products, Iam gonna lock for that link when I get home today…

Hi!

I used Rogaine in 2-3 weeks and got a terrible tinnitus. I think the was the alcohol in it. But after stopping it for 6 years ago it went away. But two years later Propecia made tinnitus.

Both Rogaine and Propecia can cause tinnitus.

Hi!

I have still tinnitus. But hearing are better. It sounds like the ear tubes causing the sound now. I used nose spray also but this was not good. Going over to only tablets of Loratadin now and nose are some better. Tinnitus high because of nose spray and my nose got red as bambi on ice:-). So it definitivily is the allergic reaction back in my nose and maybe else in the body causing my tinnitus.

Hello all, here is the info on Minoxidil and tinnitus, its from this link

groups.google.ca/group/alt.balds … 4ad7d90f94

Minoxidil is known to grow hair in part due to its effects on potassium
channels (diazoxide also opens potassium channels). Potassium channel
genetic defects are associated both with hair cell disorders (deafness)
and epilepsy (epileptic seizures can be induced by dropping GABA
levels). Exposure to loud noises produces tinnitus and inhibits GABA
functioning of inner-ear hair follicles (also ups glutamate; note the
warning with minoxidil not to use it if you have ringing in your ears.

in denmark where I live ther no warning on minoxdril, here its sold as regaine…

arvidnielsen,

nice to hear you are on to something, I bought 10 loratadin and have 5 left, but since my tiniitus is the asme, maybe even a little moe hiss… I dont think Ill continue, what do you think?, right now Iam about to order more gaba, I treied it once, had maybe a little help from it, hope it will do somthing for the tinnitus this time…

best regards

tom

I’m have found out what is the cause now:
http://www.healthsquare.com/mc/fgmc2800.htm

All symptoms match and I have high T3. I’m going to confront this with my enc no.

-AN

Arvidnielsen,

I read a little aboute hyperthyroidism but still dont understand how propecia could cause this, think I better get my T3 level checked aswell. I dont see Tinnitus as a sign og hyperthyroidism but it could just be a side from one of all the other signs of hyperthyroidism. Please let us know what you doctor telles you.

best regards,

I had crackling in my ear when I was on fin-nasty-ride. It was a very strange symptom.

My ear would crackle sometimes when I talked, and sometimes when on the phone my opposite ear would crackle when someone was talking to me…very strange.

Now that I’m off of it, I don’t think I’ve had the crackling since.

I’ve been on Propecia 5-6 weeks. 4 Weeks ago, I started getting what I thought was a stuffy winter nose. It got progressively worse until
my inner ear pressure was completely closed and my eustachian tubes were blocked causing MAJOR TINNITUS ! I went to 2 ENT Dr.'s and each time
was told Upper Viral Infection with Eustacian Tube Dysfunction. Started
on Cortisone Nasal Spray/Oral Pills which offered significant relief but wouldn’t last more than a few hours before the symptoms re-appeared.
Was told Virus cannot be treated with anti-biotics, you have approx 7-14 days. I take my Propecia in the AM. I was using my meds late in the evening so I could try and get some sleep. Had to get a prescription for Ambien
and even that only lasted 4-5 hours. The Propecia is causing swelling
hence the Tinnitus and other symptoms. STOP TAKING > SEEK MEDICAL
HELP QUICKLY. I discovered the identical symptoms while looking for help on this issue on the net. I knew something wasn’t right but I couldn’t put 2+2 together until one morning my symptoms were pretty low (from the previous nights cortisone pill) and I set out for work and took my Propecia. Within 2 Hours Major Tinnitus Attack, tight throat, stuffy nose,
hyper-sensitive hearing, weird pressure in the head/brain area, etc.
This is an ALLERGIC REACTION > go to Propecia sight and see possible
reactions. What a living hell the last 3 weeks have been and I still don’t know what the long term effects may be. These symptoms look just like
a classic Upper Respiratory Virus with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
I did an MRI on my Brain @ work ( I do MRI’s) NORMAL BRAIN. No
fluid in ear/mastoid, etc. It mimics a class Rhino Virus but is an allergic reaction. I also had tightness in throat. Your eustachian tubes are inflamed because of an allergic reaction. Get to your Dr. and get on
MethylPREDNIsolone pills/and nasal steriod spray. I hope this helps before someone really gets a serious injury. Take care.

You mention MethylPREDNIsolone… have a read through this, notice this man recovered from Fin-induced hepatitis via Methylprednisolone treatment for 3 days:

propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1024

What do you think the connection is between Finasteride’s method of action and Methylprednisolone as a “cure”? ie, why Methylprednisolone? What is your background, if you do MRIs?

Cheers.

i’ve got a shortness of breath, tightness of the throat and burning chest sensation while on fin…

but I thought it was due to hypothyroidism … do u think an allergic reaction can last 3 months after have quit the drug ? (i took a few drugs in case it was allergy but it did not work).

I am the Chief MRI Technologist for an outpatient MRI Clinic. I am not
an MD. As I describe my “Tinnitus” attack, it is clear that I had a classic
ALLERGIC reaction to Propecia. Tightness in throat, eustachian tubes
inflamed, stuffy nose with no evidence of sinusitis on my Brain Scan.
The drug MethylPREDNIsolone is a common ANTI-INFLAMMATORY.
The first clue that I missed was my MRI showed NO fluid in
the sinuses/ear canal, etc. So why was I continuing to get a stuffy
head and inner ear/eustachian tube problem ? These symptoms
mimic an Upper Viral Infection / Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
I should have told the Dr. I was also having Hyperacoustic hearing
as well but I am not sure the 2 ENT Dr.'s I went to would have made the connection. Normally when a person has an allergic reaction it happens very quickly. It took a while for the drug to build in my system to the point
that it started to react negatively with my body. I can only describe my personal symptoms and how it happened to me. Every time I took my Propecia the symptoms returned. When I took the Prednisolone the symptoms would subside. I don’t know how long it’s going to take before
the drug leaves my body and quits the INFLAMMATORY effect. I am
continuing with the Prednisolone and getting better quickly. Most people just think of Propecia as having sexual side effects. It is a DRUG and you can have an allergic reaction. We use many drugs in my field and people often have mild/serious side effects. It happens. There may be other explanations for Tinnitus and Propecia usage but I think an ALLERGIC
reaction and not a side effect is a good starting point.

JD > STOP taking finasteride now. I have no idea how long this is going to take to clear. Days, weeks, months, I don’t know. I started on 12/10
and had my last dose on 1/14/08.I started to notice small things at 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. It ALL fits.

My personal symptoms in order that I noticed them.

  1. Decreased libido / erection problem Week 2
  2. Brain fog at work, anxiety, irritability Week 2-3
  3. Stuffy Nose, minor tinnitus, flu like symptoms Week 2-3.
  4. Full blown allergic reaction starting 2 weeks ago from this date.
  5. Hypersensitive ears right now and strange pressures in my head.
  6. Reduced body temp. / feeling cold as of 1/14 - 1/15
  7. Still having internal inflammation in my nasal/eustachian tubes
which is th ecause of the tinnitus IMO. The mucous isn’t draining
out of the ear properly causing the ears to fill. Classic Tinnitus.

The MethylPREDNIsolone is working for me right now. I have no idea
how long the inflammatory effect will continue. I will post ASAP.
Call your Dr. , you are not the only one. Based on the above it didn’t
take long. Hope we all recover.

arvidnilsen > READ MY POST PLEASE ! As soon as your inflammation
gets to the point where your mucous cannot drain out of your ear
the Tinnitus will start. You need to be able to clear your ears to keep
your eustachian tubes open. You need something like GUAIFENEX to
thin the mucous and keep it flowing. I think MUCINEX OTC is the same
basic ingredient. Reduces pressure in the inner ear. Google
GUAIFENEX. MethylPREDNIsolone is an anti-inflammatory. You need to see a Dr. and tell him everything you have read on my post. Also Afrin
or Nasacort cortisone nose spray. Be careful using the Afrin type nasal sprays. After a few days you can develop the “rebound effect” which
means you need more and more of it. GO SEE A DOCTOR NOW.

If you are talking to me, it has been 2 months 1/2 now that i am off the drug.
The only symptom I have which sounds like you is shortness of breath. Anyway I will talk about it to my doc next week.

That’s good to hear that most of your symptoms went away. No question I am currently experiencing Pseudotumor Cerberi / Tinnitus. I
have these strange pressure feelings in my Brain. Very distressing.
As the pressure in my head/neck/throat increases, the tinnitus increases.
I’m getting temporary relief using the MethylPREDNIsolone which decreases
the inflammation in this area. Simply cannot function when the
Tinnitus hits , it is very severe. Hope this ends soon.

lol

no, I meant : the only symptom (among the others i suffer from) which sounds like this story of tinnitus is my shortness of breath.

Otherwise, bingo ! : pelvic/pain/dick pain, low libido, decrease penis sensitivity, joint pain, and so on…

I have had tinnitus in nearly 4 years now after stop Propecia… so I do not now if this helps. But it is very interesting.

I think the root cause is adrenal glands. IF they are not working you got allergic reactions to a lot of food. I’ve always been allergic, but not so much as after using Propecia.

Today my hearing is pretty bad to. hearing aid does not help at all…

I would speak to my doctor to see if some of this can help. I have also feel that is something with the tube an back of nose closing cause the tinnitus since hearing come and goes, but the doctors don’t belive me.

-AN

I have tried Nasacort cortisone spray and it worsen a lot. Cloes all nose and hear nearly nothing afterwards so that is not an issue for me.

-AN

Just a small update. I started on xanax and the intensity of
my tinnitus has decreased. In my case, there was a probable pre-existing
tinnitus that I was really not aware of. I do remember hearing on at least
once occasion after a few too many glasses of wine that I seem
to be hearing some “bells and whistles” which seemed to fade away.
My tinnitus seemed to become apparent after I started the Propecia
and finally went to an ENT Dr. who confirmed that I had R/L ear hearing
loss and this would explain my tinnitus. I told him that if I had it,
I never knew it. I have learned one thing though, mention Propecia
to any Dr. and they dismiss any connection between the two.
They look up the known “official” list of drug interactions see no
linkage and that’s it. Game over.

So you did not have any success with MethylPREDNIsolone ?
