I was reading some chat boards about high rt3 and saw a couple things of interest…
a lady with a high reading said she was having a problem with muscle twitches and a man with a high reading said he was having erection problems. Jn had an off the chart high reading…
Tim,
I am a pretty thin, a little muscular. I lost quite a bit of muscle weight about three years ago and never able to put it back on. You don’t have to be overweight to have thryroid issues.
Have you been diagnosed with thyroid issues? Do you think you are hypothyroid or hyperthyroid? How long were you on Propecia? and how old are you? How long ago quit?
I had low thyroid (both T3 & T4) and taking thyroid meds practically cured the fatigue issues i was having. helped with brian fog also. Now other penile issues have taken the place of those two symptoms…but when i was tired all the time and “spaced out” I remember thinking “if I could just get my energy back”…
I’m on cytomel and sytharoid for thyroid.

Questionguy,
This is what I have thinking all along, but hoped wouldn’t be the case. We have several problems going on. I’m still trying to conquer the lack of energy situation, so I would fell a great deal of satisfaction that I would be moving in the right direction if it turns out the thyroid is part of the problem.
Did you notice any improvement at all sexually once you began the thyroid meds? We have all seen the statistics that indicate a large number of men with thyroid problems have sexual issues as well.

I have not been diagnosed with thyroid problems yet. I am currently waiting for the results of a TSH stimulation test, which is supposed to be the most sensative test available for diagnosing this. I should have an answer before the week is over. I was on propecia close to 6 years.
Guys I am pasting the discussion about RT3. it is a long thread and I am not expter what do u make of it.
musclechatroom.com/forum/sho … ht=leanguy.
I tell u one thing most of the participants in the discussions have use either Saw palmetto or fin in the past but they are not ready to accept that these 5AR inhibitors are cause of their problems. one user used SP for 15 years and ended up with low T now on TRT. Some other used fin to fight high DHT from Gel or TRT and now having more problems.
sps I think you are off the mark there, have you any proof that these guys took fin? Most men on that forum are well aware of its dangers.

Yes I have their pms, in which they told me they took fin or sp but there is another fact that they don’t accept it that this has or is causing any problem. I am not sure about leanguy but pmgamer, jnsz and many have used either saw palmetto or fin. JNSZ used SP for 15 years.
if u have naturally low T or as a result of steroid use then TRT works best and u don’t need to fight with dose or anti aromatase like Awore or Whelan here were having excellent life before fin on TRT. Both say before fin they were fine on Tshots. Guys on Messo or on musclechat room constantly struggling with their TRT b/c majority(almost all of them) of them have thyroid problems. TRT is not just enough for them they r taking a bunch of other meds as well.
If you want I can cut and past their pms here but I dont think that will change any fact.
bostonusa2009,
Thyroid meds seemed to have helped with brain fog and fatigue only, and some with the eyesight stuff (i think). During my “bad days” in 2009, I could tell when it was a bad day, I woke up in the morning and the slightest bit of sunlight had me squinting and I just felt like going back to sleep (and sometimes did). I never had ED exaclty, in that i could always coax an erection, however there was numbness, loss of pleasure, and “pressure” in the erection (which i now know is peyronies, which i will post a bit more about as i learn more, but its beyond this thread)
One thing i have posted about which helped me (and i should probobly put it out there in a separte post is): I was able to get T3, RevT3, T4 and TSH as well as 3-Adiol-G by taking my lab req with all the conventionl tests, and calling the lab, getting the codes, and handwriting all the stuff i wanted onto it. While the bad news is doctors dont care about this syndrome we have…the good news is doctors dont care about this…they just want to get the kooky hypochondriac out of the office, so noone cares when i do this lab-forge thing.
A bit of possibly pertinent history: I also made what I personally belive were some other big mistakes besides FIN.
-
I chased the fatigue seperatly and got into hormone therapy even before i stopped FIN…perhaps I would not even be “one uf us” if I had let my body “do its own thing”…ill never know now.
-
I stayed on Rogain/Nizeral even after stopping FIN. Rogain does its magic on collogen so it may be a “player” in the loss of ligiment and lose scrotum issues.
-
During all this I got addicted to sleeping pills and went off them after getting on thyroid meds becase at that point i was awake by day and sleeping ok at night. that may have helped “sharpen me up”…
-
ONe of the hormones i was on was Human Growth Hormone. I cant prove this …but my gut tells me it may have been a player in the penile fibosis (Peyronies) becase I had issues with my knees, and ankle and it has been implicated in arprol tunnel syndrome which is what my erect member feels like. (pure speculation here)
Bottom line: I was out of range on thyroid test (no in the lower end of the range) and the meds clearly sharped me up …and I have even cut them back, and intend to experimnet with taking a holiday from them soon.

how long weren u on HRT? what issue u were facing on hrt?
Do we know if Hypothyroidism could cause a man’s Free Testosterone level to drop? My latest blood test shows my Free T is still low and I’m reluctant to use TRT. I read that about 70% of men with thyroid problems experience sexual side effects. I’m just hoping that maybe fixing the thyroid could improve the testosterone problem as well. Anyone?
Update 4 weeks on 50mcg T3 a day.
I have noticed excellent results so far. I am the best I have been since taking finasteride. Specifically…
Erections are virtually full strength
I have had nocturnal and morning erections last 3 weeks. Quite full, consistent, still not full strength. (barely had any semblance of morning erections post fin, and very poor erections full stop). Dramatic improvement.
Ejaculate better quality, perhaps fuller
Increased energy, stamina, reduced lethargy
increased sweating, androgenicity, acne itchy nasal hair, itchy scalp
Mood much better, no signs of depression, no anxiety.
Perhaps loss of muscle and fat (as expected as T3 will catalyse destruction of both). I’m much leaner.
My g/f remarks on my excellent moods. I tend to remark about how much better I am in bed.
Bear in mind it takes 12 weeks for reverse T3 to clear from receptors. I am effectively a third of the way through treatment. I feel MUCH better. I am so excited about the direction on my life right now.
As I speak, I am very jet lagged after having been in Europe for the last 3 weeks. I have missed and been erratic with T doses, which makes analysis of my state slightly less accurate (I feel worse today than, say, 3 days ago). Overrall, much better.
I don’t want to speak too early as I am notorious for early conclusions, and consequent emotional crashes. I also tend to hyperbole and exaggerate my situation (out of hope, fear and passion).
I didn’t want to update after a month but I have received quite a few private messages prompting feedback on my situation. I will leave it another month until I update. There is a possibility that I will be firing on ALL cylinders in a month.
Current regimen:
T 60mg per week
HCG 250iu twice a week
Mesterolone 25mg IM every other day
T3 50mcg a day capsule
I want (and am finding) that I am able to taper down the mesterolone IM. (I have been using this as DHT source to improve energy, sexual functioning) . 5 days after starting T3 I missed my mesterolone IM dose (I left it 3 days). Seriously, I couldn;t move off the couch for lack of energy. I simply felt too lethargic to move!!
Now I can easily go 4 or 5 days without Mesterolone. Added to that, my sexual functioning is improving even tho I’m lowering my DHT dose!
ANyway, gotta go, will update in a month. Gotta go and live my life…this month’s gonna be fun…lots of cool stuff to do, rock on!!!
JN
Good to see you are continuing to recover JN. The number of guys that seems to post blood panels with low Thyroid numbers seems to increase by the day.
I have been on Armour 60mg (T3 &T4) my doctor prescribed an additional 40mg of T4 which I have not taken yet as it is at a compounding pharmacy. I feel even better mentally, very energetic today. I’m going to keep running what he prescribed as both my Free T3 & T4 came back low. I got an amazing night of sleep last night. Probably the best in years.
JN, I read quite a few stories of guys with thyroid issues that say they had low T before and rose back up after they fixed their thyroid problems, not sure if you have seen this.
I also ran into a female friend at a party she was talking to my girlfriend and she started talking about her thyroid problem. Apparantly she is hypothyroid as well. She said it took her about 6 months to get back to her normal self on the thyorid meds. She also said her horomes were not functioning properly before and they dramatically improved when her numbers got better.
joao brazil is the only other rt3 test been done?
It was in range, none the less im gonna go hard and try and get this test…just gotta find a doctor whos heard of it…
Congrats JN:) Check back next month please and update us again if you don’t…We really appreciate it…
Peace bro,
Anonnn
spstriken,
read my story, i touch on my expericences with HRT. I stopped because:
-
i implicate it in possibly having exasserbating the situation (especially peyronies) growth hormone especially
-
i started way to soon after stopping FIN
-
Its a life long committment
And mostly: I had no great answer for the doctors who asked: why are you so sure that your issues are from FIN which has little controversy, and yet you bang hormones into your body, and this has HUGE CONTROVERSY. The suggestion was that perhaps the Hormones were responsible for my mess rather than the FIN.
I had been hopeing to “dry out” and see what doing NOTHING felt like and was feeling quite good this year, when 2 things got me back to looking for more interventions:
-
I did the 3-Adiol-G test (twice now) and so far I’m lower than anyone on the planet.
-
discomfort in the penis/testicals got my to seeing urologist and I learned about the peyronies and testical issues.
I’m a bit lost now (once again) beause the endro has me on thryroid meds and the uro has me on clomide/arimedex to try to pull up DHT and subsiquently 3-adiol-g. My big issue now is the peyronnies which i dont seem to be being treated for as far as i can see.
Right, can’t help it.
Making EXCELLENT progress with T3.

Here is a study which shows a link between prostate removal and reduced thyroid hormone - i can only assume that reduced prostate efficiency/atrophy via finasteride may induce similar effects.
www3.interscience.wiley.com/jour … 2/abstract
Serum total and free T4 and triiodothyronine (T3) were significantly reduced in ventral prostatectomized rats. Histological analysis of the thyroid showed that the diameters of the peripheral and middle follicles, colloid epithelial cells, and nuclei were increased in prostatectomized rats, indicating hypothyroid status. this said, replacement thyroid hormone may be beneficial symptomatically, but it still points to the prostate (and androgen receptors in the prostate) as being a center of focus
is it possible that one is having thyroid issues (hypo) and has still ‘lost’ 25+ pounds in the last year?
