The Passing of Dr. Daniel M. Stewart

Just a note to mention the passing of Dr. Daniel M. Stewart, as announced by the The Post-Finasteride Syndrome Foundation.

Can someone provide more info about who he was in relation to this website? I tried researching but I can’t find any information. It seems very disheartening to hear a doctor died after suffering PFS, so I’m curious as to what happened.

it looks like his death is a result of PFS? this is scary 5ARi can kill you ?

I was thinking maybe suicide, but for a doctor to kill himself because he has pfs. Why isn’t this world news?

Why do you think he was medical doctor?

Could it be a heart attack?

The story only broke in last few days his family is probably too upset to talk to the media. But I’d say the media will have to cover this story at some point.

Agreed. Someone should reach out to family members and ask them to appear on Adam Held’s BlogTalkRadio show and explain what happened:

There are plenty of family members listed in the obits:

As for Daniel being a doctor, if you read his bio, he was just a PhD – and professor of criminal justice – not a medical doctor. They also say at the end that the family asks donations to be made to the PFS Foundation. And it also says on the foundation website that he had taken part in a clinical study.

Maybe Daniel put it in his will (or suicide note?) that people should donate to the foundation – or maybe he himself left something from his estate to the foundation.

So it would seem natural that the family would contact the foundation to let them know what happened. Plus, the family is all over the MoveOn.org petition:

petitions.moveon.org/sign/merck- … rce=search

So it looks like they are doing whatever they can to get the word out.

I may be wrong but I think a PhD is a higher degree than a medical degree.

He obviously had to work very hard to get that level of education.

PFS deniers would try and say that we are all ambulance chasers or have mental issues but I very much doubt Daniel would have got to were he was if had mental problems.

The fact is Daniel had everything going for him yet he died soon after he developed PFS.

That should make anybody thinking of taking Finasteride sit up and think.

Well put: Daniel’s resume was impeccable. And he was young and from a well-off family.

AND…some major medical institution deemed his PFS symptoms worthy of clinical exploration.

I wonder if the family are considering legal action. It sounds like he has a lot of support and I expect justice would be sought.

As Mark says, it is probably too soon for Daniel’s family to feel able to talk about what has happened, but I am sure they will want to in time. As tragic as this is, there really couldn’t be a better example of a fine, upstanding, intelligent, witty, and much loved young man (I have read many of the obits) and it is exactly stories like this that make people sit up and take notice. Hopefully Daniel’s tragic death will be the tipping point in getting the facts of Merck’s devastating drug across to the media, the general populace, the medical community, and ultimately Merck itself. Daniel and all other victims should forever be remembered as testimony to these atrocities.

Terribly sad. That’s the severity of PFS. The mental strain and cognitive problems this illness causes is truly sinister.

At least his struggle is over now. May he rest in peace.

i dont know who is this guy but he claims daniel had his genome mapped and he said he is extremeliy sensitive to this type of medication. what is this test? where can we do?

His obit says he was in the Baylor study. Just a guess, but if what this guy is saying is true, then maybe the genome testing was part of that study? And maybe he got the news from the study that this is a genetic thing and there’s no obvious treatment and that was it…

Whatever the details, what an awful story, and one that I think everyone here is feeling very intensely right now, even if we never actually met the guy.

God damn tragedy.

His friends and family have to be devastated.

I wish we had a suicide helpline banner on the top at all times. I don’t want this to happen again. I’m so fortunate to not have the terrible mental sides some do and I would never say I understand what they are going through… but, I wish them strength to hang in there. Don’t give up hope. We could get a break in this through the research.

Absolutely right about getting more help and support to people, and trying to stay hopeful. Reading those messages from his family members on the petition is heartbreaking. It left me in tears. But the detail that he was part of the Baylor study is pretty chilling at first glance. Obviously, we don’t know the details (and maybe we never will), but the fact that someone that close to the research would feel driven to this is particularly unnerving.

This is so damn sad. I feel awful for what happened to Dr. Stewart. I am the same age as Dr. Stewart and my most severe effects have been mental so I know that he was going through is torture. He was an accomplished man and was obviously very intelligent and I’m sure the mental effects took their toll. This syndrome is hell and sadly can seem like its worse than death.

i have strong mental sides and no body gives a f*ck . even my family.

It’s hard for people to believe a hairloss pill can do these things.

And thats the Reason why Merck has good Times to do what they want
