The "if I hadn't taken fin" thread.

I already know what strategy their lawyers are using, after a civil lawsuit is filed the other party has a chance for an intial rebuttal. Merck sent it to my lawyer who in turn sent it to me.

Essentially it is 75 pages long and says: We didn’t know it caused this so its not our fault. It just says that in more words or less, over and over again.

I know I fall into the latter group, but its hard not to. I majored in molecular biology and took a lot of heavy science courses and I’m still trying to understand what’s happened to us.

Awor’s epigenetics hypothesis makes sense because epigenetic changes even occur with the diet that we eat. But, its hard to completely rule out some of the other theories. For example, there could be inflammation of the prostate that is causing inflammation of the nerves surround the prostate which can effect the way our dicks feel, cause ED etc. There are also the theories which right off the bat sound like bullshit and I agree the people who claim to have found something that helps them and thinking its the cure is very annoying. I remember the whole screwed up neurotransmitters theory, the leaky gut theory, and now there’s a new theory that smoking some herb is going to help us? But what do you expect I guess, some guys are so desperate and need some hope, you can’t blame them. What’s happened is very traumatic.

Either way, I do not believe its permanent. Unless our brain or nervous system has been irreversibly damaged, it must be fixable. And when I mean irreversibly damaged I mean parts of our brain or nerves have died. Nerve inflammation is reparable. But, it’s difficult to find what will help us recover.

I haven’t bothered hiring a lawyer because I know I’m not going to benefit, and I’m not that interested in getting money, I just want my life back. I don’t want Merck to get away with this though. But unfortunately, they are too powerful. Look at what happened with the financial crisis. The banks lost billions of dollars and then convinced the feds to bail them out. Thats just how things are in this country. And people are too unmotivated to take action as a whole too. I made a post for people to contact their doctors to tell them to stop prescribing the drug and no one responded.

@BrokenPecker

How is “we did not know it causes this” supposed to hold up? They do not know the mechanism by which the drug works and they still released the drug? Does your lawyer actually think this excuse can hold up?

very usefull thread!!!

No, I’m sure he doesn’t or else he wouldn’t be suing them. Dispite some of the frivilous lawsuits your hear about on TV, most real lawyers will not take a case unless they feel there is a good chance they can win and actually get some money out of it.

I’m not saying its a good excuse, its just the one their using. Claiming lack of knowledge does not excuse them and the fact that that don’t even understand how the drug works is even more malicious. BTW I got that info about “not knowing the mechanism” by how finasteride works, off a wikipedia page… its out there you can look it up. One of the first things I did when I got this horrible condition was research the hell out finasteride itself, how it is made and its history. First I tried to find out what it actually does inside the body, thats when I got the little surprise that nobody fucking knows how, lol. Its so freakin idiotic that I can’t help but laugh, you would think they would do more research about something before giving it out to people like candy it just goes to show you the arrogance of these big drug companies.

Hopefully, it’ll convince doctors and scientists that once a drug is “out of your system” its effects go away. That’ll be a huge paradigm shift if that paper can demonstrate that.

Apparently, it tries to fill the role of testosterone due to its similar chemical makeup. It binds to the 5-AR, thus blocking the testoerone from converting into DHT. That’s one mechanism of action of the drug. Not sure about the rest.

@BrokenPecker

Thank you for the reply. The idea that they used that as an excuse is simply laughable. It is negligent on their part because they did not do enough research, even if they “didn’t know”. What was you lawyers response in regards to this?

I told my derm and Merck. Merck is suppose to call the doctor and notify him of any adverse reactions to a drug.

Please, you really think they are going to do that? Its up to us to notify our doctors and convince them this is real. I flat out told my doctor he better stop prescribing Propecia. I’m going to call him again and see if he listened and if not, threaten to sue him.

The truth is that doctors/researchers don’t know the exact mechanism of all drugs though.

Brother if we all thought like that, nothing would ever get better for us.

Join one of the class actions there’s a bunch of them it’s easy and it is important, if you really want your life back you gotta fight for it and the more people we having fighting and generally being a pain in the ass for Merck the better. The fed’s bail-out those banks cause the fucking country lives on debt and the USA is much closer to falling apart financially then the government wants you to think… but thats another story.

Yes, many people are unmotivated I am complaining about it constantly trying to stir up some of them to do something, so is Second Amendment. Thats no reason for you to be one of them, the old saying the squeaky wheel gets the oil is true in our time more then ever. I read your post, I didn’t respond because I told many of my doctors about what this drug has done to me along time ago, and I think many others have too. Right now we need to attack the media outlets, politicians and government agencies and get them in on this. We have some momentum going but we need more people/institutions interested in our problem and thats how we can get it.

I don’t expect them to at all, just saying what I did. They’re suppose to alert the FDA to, I highly doubt they did that. If they do, they water down the report. Notice how they haven’t included penile shrinkage in the warning label yet. Even though its pretty obvoius why fin can cause penile shrinkage. That was probably known when fin was first invented.

Very interesting Second, just thinking about this fact leads me into a few areas of thought regarding how this could cause our bodies problems.

I’ll consider the lawsuit thing, but I’ve taken clomid and they may nullify me. I’ve contacted my docs, the FDA, Richard Horton at The Lancet, and I’m trying to contact that guy I mentioned at the FDA who wrote about Merck/FDA negligence with Vioxx. If you guys really want to hurt Merck quick, the best would be to get doctors to stop prescribing it and we know the FDA hasn’t done that yet, so that means contacting them yourselves.

And in terms of research, if there is a urologist/urologist resident/research that could do a study on mice or rats (it doesn’t have to be human) we may be able to see the differences in gene expression there. That could go much quicker than a human study and that way we could test possible compound that may force our bodies back to their original state.

Its on going right now. Both sides are basically gearing up for a legal battle, AND all the lawsuits might be consolidated into one by the end of the month. Look at my post under the legal section.

Now what about finding what we can do to help ourselves? So far I’ve been trying to eat as healthy as possible by doing the paleo diet which is not that bad. Drinking lots of water. Trying to look at porn to get mentally stimulated erections. I’m seriously considering the Nystatin route not for its anti fungal properties, but for its possible HDAC inhibitor properties. I’m going to go see a highly regarded neurourologist to see if there is anything going on with nerves down there.

Btw I’m glad this threat turned into something more constructive than discussion of “where’d we be if we didn’t take propecia.”

Those are not bad ideas, what seems to have helped me most honestly is time and rest. Living as low stress as possible and sleeping as much as you can.

BrokenPecker, what are your symptoms now?

@BrokenPecker

It seems hurtful to have all of the cases consolidated to New Jersey. NJ is Merck’s backyard, that just seems to be in their favor. Am I wrong?

@DGreen

Give the Nystatin a go. When I use a lot, like 3mil per day or more, I feel I have a very modest boost. I dont think it can hurt.
