I found another italian sufferer not registered at the forum and gave him the research consent form for adhering immediately to the study. He will do it.
just faxed mine out… what type of benefits could really come from this though?
Uh… how about a published report on our problem which you can use with doctors who disbelieve the Post-Finasteride Syndrome exists or that Finasteride can cause persistent side effets?
Or how bout the fact it will spur the medical, media and scientific community to take this problem more seriously, generate awareness and hopefully investigate our condition to find a cure?
As Dr. Irwig himself stated in his initial post: “We invite you to be a part of this important project so that we can report the persistent sexual side effects of finasteride to both the medical community (doctors who prescribe the medicine) and to the general population.”
Knowing this, I really don’t understand why you would post that type of comment.
well im more concerned about myself at this point, then some random joe on the street… not to sound selfish or anything…regardless of whatever you may think… if it doesnt involve us sueing the pants off of mereck and getting a lot of money… I’m skeptical anything that great will come from it…or at least some free medical care because when you’re 22 like me and do not have insurnace…It’s quite difficult to pay for some kind of treatment when you dont make that much money… not to mention tryin to solve a problem that you shouldnt have inthe first place…
Well toad instead of criticizing the study - which Dr. Irwig is doing for free for the assistance of us and any potential propecia user - perhaps you could be proactive by getting your blood levels tested (it seems you still have not done so, from your post) which may lead to an effective treatment for you personally - it could possibly be more simple then you think.
I’m most certainly not critizing him. I wouldnt participate in the study if I didnt think there was a point. I’m just pessimistic is all… I guess we all kinda have a right to be…
toadstool. I am not sure if you understand the point of clinical research. Think of it this way… Instead of you trying to browse through this forum for weeks, months or years trying to figure out what caused the problems you’re facing and finding a cure, why not have the medical community believe that the drug CAN cause permenant side effects and atleast consider you for a potential treatment rather than getting an answer like “It’s all in your head” or “Its only psychological and it will resolve itself in two weeks on its own when you stop thinking about it.”
That is why we are trying to create media/medical awareness… not only to prevent other users from using such drugs (which are prescribed without even a checkup) but also so that there is at least an investigation that has started.
does anyone have an update on how many subjects have been enrolled. Looks like we might have crossed 50.
[Size=4]I am happy to report that we have now enrolled a sufficient number of subjects to start the statistical analysis. I will continue to do interviews as the more subjects we have the more robust the data. Please realize that publishing medical research can take 6-12 months depending on the journal, whether the article needs revisions, etc. I will definitely share the final product with everyone once it becomes available.
Again, thank you very much to everyone that has participated thus far!

Read 1st post in this thread, it explains the instructions and has the consent form attached: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3497
Download, fill out and sign the consent form. Then either scan/email it to propeciastudy@gmail.com to let him know you sent it, and include your name and phone #. They will send you a questionnaire to complete and schedule a phone interview.
It’s very simple.
