NEW BLOOD TEST (Good news - big jump in T)

I can only tell you that Dr. John is of the opinion that DHT, as measured in the blood, is an unreliable measure of true DHT status. If you really want to know your DHT (at least in Dr. John’s opinion) you need to do a Rhein 24-hour urine panel.

However, I imagine that it really can’t be all that unreliable. After all, I believe all of the the studies we see showing finasteride knocking out DHT to 1/3 were using blood measurements.

Dr. Goldstein reviewed my blood results and said that I have hypothyroidism.

What do you guys think?

Josh

Based on the below? Quite possibly.

Apparently the diagnostic standards for Hypothyroidism have changed, anything above 3.0 is suspect possible hypothyroidism:

How did you get to see Dr. Goldstein? Did he review your hormones on this site or did you see him in person? What treatment options did he outline for post-Finasteride side effects?

Yes, how did Dr. Goldstein say hypothyroidism would affect your sexual function, and how did you see him?

I am really curious to know what he has said about treatment options Josh.

I emailed my blood results to him and spoke to him over the phone. He recommended the usual treatments for hypothyroidism. He didn’t say how hypothyroidism would effect my sexual function.

My hypothyroidism may potentially have been caused by taking Propecia.

Mew I reviewed your blood results and your TSH is almost identical to mine. Has your endo said anything about hypothyroidism?

Did you mention anything about how Finasteride left you with this hormonal profile? If so, did he outline any treatments SPECIFIC to Finasteride’s effects or have any idea how or why the drug effected men like us?

No docs have said anything about my TSH because it’s “in range”. It has since come down from 4.54 three months off the drug into the 2-3 range 19 months later, but could probably stand to be under 2.0

Hey Josh,

How are the nocturnal and morning erections? Mine were non existent for 3 months and now I get like 1 or 2 a week.

Yeah, mine were nonexistent for about 12 months after taking propecia. Some weeks I get them 5-7 times a week and other weeks I get one or two.

We didn’t discuss finasteride.

Hey JoshBlack,

Our stories sound almost identical in a lot of respects. I too took Propecia for 1.5 years; although, I have only been off of it for about 11 months. Perhaps when I get to the 1.5 year mark (like you) I hope what you are saying is right… I hope that, if I give my body time to heal itself everything will return to normal. I am also active and exercise a lot.

I am going to follow your regimen: no alcohol, no caffeine, no (or very little) greasy food. I already work out a lot, but I am curious, what is the Zinc for?

I’ll pass on the shrunk dick pics, but you have given me hope and inspiration.

Thanks

Zinc increases testosterone.

curious guys and sorry for jumping in, but how has your sleep been? would you say you’re not sleeping as deeply since quiting fin or are most fo your problems just related to ed?

Ithappens, I definately think you’re onto something. My sleep hasnt been good since this started either, and I would bet its like that for most of us others.
I have been thinking about getting something for this, to just get me over the hump.

Josh, how you been doin? Any improvements? I hope so bro!

boston yea I’ve been the same way. It’s sort of like my sleep went to hell while I was on the stuff, and after I got off things improved overall for a brieif period, but my sleep never recovered and thus over time it has had a snowball effect if you will and things have gotten progressively worse. As far as the sleep Boston take my advice go to a neuro and have a sleep study done. I can almost assure you it will show some signs of alpha-intrusion/deprivation of stage 3 and 4 sleep. Anyway, ghb/xyrem are probably great for the problem and I’ll be starting that soon, but if you can’t get that you could always just get your doctor to prescribe GABApentin. Personally, I didnt like the way the stuff was affecting my body but I was getting some better sleep on it. Either way it’s worth a shot.

Hypothyroidism causes low libido and brain fog.
Any TSH value above 2.0 must be explained by the presence of some pathology, otherwise, you may have some hormonal defect or are following wrong diet or can be drug intoxicated or many different things.

But the issue remains, you are definately hypothyroid

how a single enzym blocker may have cause such force all endocrine glands to a " reset "??

most of us hypothyroid most of us have adrenal fatigue if untreated its very bad
