My first results

I had an initial visit to a urologist a few weeks ago. They said everything checked out and sent me for blood work. My results are below. They only tested my testosterone levels and set up an appointment with endochrinology with further evaluation. I have this set up for Thursday where I hope to get all the tests done. Can anyone give me their take on the results of my first test? It was at 830am. Of course I have no baselines.

Testosterone 240-950 ng/dl 540
Testosterone free 9-30 ng/dl 13.5

Your Test Levels arent so bad, you need to check a whole score of other hormones, check out the list.

But the good news is that your testes are still producing adequate levels

proscarred,

look for the short list. Get more hormones and proteins tested. I think your free T is very low. On a % basis that put’s you at 15% of a healthy range. That is very low for a young guy.

This is very typical for a post propecia guy.

AST 8-48 U/L 20
ALT 7-55 U/L 21
TSH .3-5.0 mIU/L 1.5
THYROXINE .8-1.8 ng/dL 1.3
TESTOSTERONE TOTAL 240-950 ng/dL 505
TESTOSTERONE BIO AV 72-235 ng/dL 96
TESTOSTERONE FREE 9-30 ng/dL 11.1
PROLACTIN 3-13 ng/dL 10
LH 1.8-8.6 IU/L 10.5***
FSH IU/L 5.5 didn’t list range
SHBG 10-60 nmol/L 33
ESTRADIOL10-40 pg/ml 23

Thoughts anyone?

I got maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaajor resistance from the endo. Said numbers looked great. Told me it was anxiety causing this and to wait it out. I kept asking questions and he got frustrated and walked out on me. He tried to skirt around showing me the test results. He said everything looked great and that he’d mail me the results. Finally, he gave in and let his assistant print them out for me and then he walked out. That was it. This was at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota. They couldn’t do anything or recommend anything for my situation.

I was interested in finding information about prolactin, which looks high on my blood test. I found this.

I asked the endo about this and he told me he didn’t know. I am really pissed off at the lack of expertise I received. I really hope this is not indicative of most of these doctors.

Your endo is right no need to mess with you any more than this drug has already. You need to test more things to rule out failures such as your thyroid , adrenals, and basic electrolytess. If I was you i would do a couple things buy some vitamin c time released and pop 1500 mg in the morning and at night. Buy a product called ZMA take it right before you sleep. Take a multivitamin. Buy two supplements one l-arginine and two pycnogenol take 3 garms of l-arginine through out the day and 100 mg of pycnogenol through out the day.
Everything i just mentioned is minerals nothing like herbs or hormones that in my opinon will only mess you up more. That routine i just listed plus taking some fish and flax seed oils have eliminated my ed problems up to 85%.
GOOD LUCK and be extremley weerey to jump on the next pharmaceutical drug.

Those seem to be on the lower end of the range and are quite important since it’s the amount of “Free” testosterone that is available for the body to use.

Approaching the top, but not over. I seriously doubt you have to worry about prolactinoma since those numbers are usually in the 100s, or 1000s.

Finasteride however, has been linked to increased prolactin use.

This is a bit out of place, out of range high. Your pituitary is sending massive signals to your testes to make more T. This can sometimes be indicative of primary hypogonadism but your Total T levels are mid range. What did the endo say about this result?

He said not to be concerned because this reading changes frequently throughout the day. It is a rather sporatic reading. He was saying it could be a lot different if measured ten minutes later etc.

What are the characteristics of primary? Testicular failure? My testicles have atrophied, but not a great deal. Not as full, but not peas or anything.

Dude your Free T is LOW. You sure your endocrinologist hasn’t had his medical license taken away from him?

Taken at 830am

SHBG 27 (13-74)
Total T 446 (183-703)
Free T 10.3 (3.8-12.8)
BioAv 241 (89-300)
LH 2.3 (1.2-7.8)
FSH 3.2 (1.6-9.7)
Estradiol 16 (6-65)

Have been working out a ton. Put all my weight back on (15lbs). Sexual sides are still a major issues. Rubbery genitals, ED, low libido. These have maintained or gotten worse. Thoughts?

test your adiol-g.

GET THESE TEST resuls DONE

DHT and 3-adiolg(3a-Androstanediol Glucuronide) (MOST IMPORTANT)

ALSO get a FULL thyroid panel done(TSH, T3, Reverse T3, Free T4 updake, and whatever else a full thyroid panel consists of)

I got a formal follow up letter from my endo with my latest test results (I posted these results above). The letter included the test results for DHT, which I did not have before. The result was 25 ng,dl. The doctor noted on the letter that he found it interesting that my testosterone levels were ‘very’ normal with my DHT being at the ‘very’ low end of the range.

So, the bottom line is that I have a DHT deficiency.

Your test results are very similar to mine(total T 447(280-800), free T 19.67 (5-21), DHT 23 (30-80). Total T is on the low normal end, free T is oddly at the higher end, and DHT is very low. Did your doctor provide any sort of feedback regarding how the DHT deficiency should be investigated further?

The doctor did not provide any feedback as to the DHT issue. I will get further testing done in a month and evaluate then.

Latest results. He made me believe I was getting a full workup, but I got the results back today and they only included the tests below. Its like he tried to trick me into getting less tests. Its weird how they resist you when you ask for short list recommended on here. The good news is that I complained enough to get a thyroid panel and full adrenal work up on the 30th.

SHBG 33 (13-74)
Total T 459 (183-703)
Free T 9.5 (3.8-12.8)
BioAv 223 (89-300)
LH 3.2 (1.2-7.8)

Can anyone give me instructions on how to do an adiol g test. My endo has claimed to have researched the test and can’t find anywhere that does it. I see links on this forum, but would like instructions, cost, method for giving the sample etc.

Thanks.

The links are right in the first post.

My latest results from this week:

TSH, sensitive 2.39 (.465-4.68)
T4, Free 1.2 (.8-2.2)
ACTH 62 (7-50)
Cortisol 12 (no range)
Estradiol 15 (6-65)
LH 2.1 (1.2-7.8)
FSH 2.4 (1.6-9.7)
DHT 34 (25-75)
SHBG 32 (13-74)
Testosterone 354 (183-703)
Free T 7.2 (3.8-12.8)
Bio Av 169 (89-300)
Prolactin 16.4 (3.7-17.9)

I have to get a T3 RT3 test done still. If anyone sees anything abnormal, patterns etc. please advise. Thanks all.

  1. your total T is lower than before but we can probably assume that your total T is normally around 400-450 based on your previous results.
  2. your DHT level has gone up since the previous test and is now within the low normal range–that seems somewhat odd.
  3. prolactin remains at the high end of the range, interestingly–I wonder if this is a persistent baseline condition with you, or is it based on recent events (such as prolactin levels supposedly rising after ejaculation).
  4. ACTH is obviously out of range but I won’t comment as I don’t know too much about adrenals.

Again, your DHT and prolactin levels are interesting to me because I have similar recurring results over 15 years for these two tests. As we’ve seen on this board, normal or high DHT levels don’t necessarily mean anything in terms of a cure, but extremely low levels are still a major concern.
