Low Basal NO/NOx Levels and Proposed Regimen

Great i ordered ir.

Thank you

A quick update Gentlemen,

No side effects still, i am perfectly fine. I cannot remember when was the last time i had Brain Fog. I stopped completely Taurine 3 days ago and there were no occurrences of excitotoxicity / tinnitus etc.

I talked to a Pathologist regarding my situation to a well known Hospital where i live. After 5 minutes he called 2 more doctors (An endocrinologist and a Neurologist) who listened to me and they were shocked as to how many things i knew about Genes, Methylation, Pubmed etc. All this was very funny but to their credit they listened very carefully to me.I went there prepared with Pubmed research for Finasteride, Genecards of SRD5A3 and all Functions associated with this gene . They explained to me that that these things are not supposed to be known by regular doctors but this is Research.

I explained to them that this is the single most important thing other Doctors didn’t do : Just listen to us.

If you haven’t done so already PLEASE try the Spinach regimen.

At the moment i take (apart from regular Spinach consumption) :

-Metafolin
-Omega 3
-Vitamin D3
-Curcumin
-Selenium

That’s it. No Methylcobalamin, P5P, Taurine, Glisodin (although i believe it works well as an antioxidant), Vitamin K2, Vitamin C, Magnesium

hi Mario!

How’s it going? Still on the other supplements? Still doing good?

How many gr are you eating ? Are you going to try to juice it at some point?

Hi Xptriado,

I am perfectly fine. No side effects. Orgasm intensity is back to 100% I still eat Spinach but i want to try to stop eating it so today is the first day that i will have less (30 grams) from 50 gr with the aim to eliminate it completely by the end of next week.

Guys, it will take some time for things to straighten up so if you started eating Spinach, make sure you follow this for at least 20 days - 1 month.

The only problem is my prostate. I can feel that something is going on down there. I have no problems in urination but there is something going on. I believe that since the prostate is sensitive to androgens and androgens are getting activated through upregulation of SRD5A3 then the prostate is affected.

I will have PSA on Monday and also a Prostate Ultrasound.i will Keep my fingers crossed…

thanks mario, keep us updated!

Hi guys,
I haven’t posted for a while because I went through a prolonged relapse for the past few months and I was waiting to get better. To cut the story short, for a while I reduced or eliminated all my supplements, including taurine and vitamin D, the only thing that I kept eating was rocket salad and (sometimes) asparagus. I still think that raising NOx is helpful, and I’m glad that now I know how to raise them. One clear effect for me is that I don’t suffer from tinnitus that often. However, it is not sufficient for severe cases of our condition. Using the NOx measuring strips I could see that even if my NOx were at a decent level (mid scale), I was still feeling quite bad. In two months with my girlfriend I had sex twice, and in those two occurrences I forced myself doing it (we may break up soon because she brings up this situation more and more often). It never happened to me to have such a low libido, actually less than zero, I was looking to very beautiful girls in the subway and the thought of physical intimacy almost repulsed me like if it was a man.

Then after a few months I started taking again all the supplements (zinc, vit D, taurine, p5p, DIM, forskolin, b12, iodine etc.) and I slowly began to feel better. At that point, as a last resort I began cycles of progesterone as suggested in lightAtTheEnd’s protocol, I will detail soon my experience with that in that thread, I can only anticipate that the beginning was great, but then it became quite ugly.

I can see that now the focus of this thread has shifted to spinach, I’ll give a try to that too, I have nothing to lose anyway.

Overall, we know that with PFS the entire Steroidogenesis is compromised, we may help it by eating properly, methylation protocol, NOx, aromatase inhibitors, etc. However, from my personal experience favoring the steroidogenesis helps (sometimes greatly) with the symptoms, but it doesn’t target the problem of PFS at the root. The negative hormonal feedback which can cause a relapse at the slightest intake of 5ar inhibitors is still there.

Elijah,

NO/NOx is important : There simply can be no Erections with Low NO levels (which leads to impaired endothelial function) but i will agree with you that this is not the Root cause of our problems.

We are dealing with a Multi-system condition (=many body functions are affected). If we make the assumption that SRD5A3 is the culprit and as a consequence we have impaired Glycosylation, then from what i’ve read, scientists do not know what are the implications of impaired Glycosylation :

It appears that the various Supplements (Vitamin D, Selenium, etc, etc) ameliorate some of the problems but the Main culprit is there. Hence, why we do not have long-lasting results.

I was ā€œluckyā€ enough to identify what works and what doesn’t (from a personal experience of course) regarding Oxidative Stress. Researching which supplements may work and which supplements should not be used by us is a difficult task. For example it now appears that Curcumin is a DHT inhibitor. Other Web entries suggest that Curcumin is a DHT Inhibitor in large doses.

Anyway, Keep the Spinach regimen for a month and please update us.

Good Luck.

Hi mariovitali, 50g of fresh spinach? not baby spinach? not pre-cooked/frozen? I’m gonna eat spinach every day from now on lol so do tell me the details. I’ll titrate/increase the dosage at will/to experiment the correct dosage of course.

also, can you give a brief recap on the timeline of your recovery of symptons? If it’s a hassle, then you can idk illustrate the timeline in Excel (make one cell a month in X axis lol) and put up a picture.

The reason is that I’m starting to suspect that the methylation protocol could still be a necessity alongside the NOs/dolichol protocol, a synergistic protocol if you will. Maybe you had jumpstarted your system with your methylation initially, then rolled in with NOs/dolichol etc. This way, we could see when you did methylation protocol, when you altered it, what was the general trend, what worked and what not, when the rocket and/or spinach came along, etc.

EDIT oh yeah, the reason why I’m also asking this is because I recall that I did do the dolichol protocol fairly faithfully but it didn’t work back then. However, who knows how it works now, seeing as I’ve recovered as much as I have by now… and how it reacts with properly functioning methylation.

Quick update :

Continuing to feel great with a small catch. It appears to me that Methylation protocol is needed : I completely stopped Methylcobalamin and P5P and began to feel very slight side effects within 10 days. gefinauser you may be right. I eat spinach every day but nowhere near in the amount i was eating before, maybe half of what i was eating.

Another guy who had problems since September just sent me a Text Message Thanking me because he saw an immediate change in his energy levels and depressive thoughts within the first 5 days of eating Spinach and in another 3 days he said that his erections are back AFTER MONTHS. This user is not from propeciahelp but he is from another Forum in the country that i come from. He says that he will wait for a month because he is afraid to believe that this actually works. He said that he never felt so good in months. I instructed him to stay away from DHT Inhibitors and Glutamate / MSG Food sources.

Gefinauser i am very busy these days so perhaps you should use Methylcobalamin and Metafolin and P5P if this is needed but continue upregulation of SRD5A3 through Dolichol/Spinach consumption.

I use baby Spinach, raw.

All the Best,

Mario

I understand man, I’ll pm you if I have anything urgent related to this. I’m pr busy until January as well.

…but Mario!!! Thanks for that info, for I have a very positive mental episode (or maybe even two) lately that sounds similar and I’m suspecting spinach as the cause. It could be one-off effect, or the culprit was something else - I’m gonna test it out properly. I’m very stabile case of PFS who takes barely any supplements so this was a remarkable event.

Also, part of the reason I became more interested this is because… I’ve noticed my tinnitus comes and goes… but mostly comes when food are eaten and at certain times of the day. You know, could be that g-whatever over-excitement… food for thought.

Hi Mario,

FWIW, I tried the nitric oxide test strips and my result came back on the lowest end of the scale. I know I shouldn’t put too much stock in one measurement like that, but I thought you’d like to know.

Stocking up on spinach as well!

OK Some thoughts, very quickly :

@MerryChristmas : Please be aware that low NO levels is not what is causing PFS. It is -yet- one more symptom, possibly a mechanism of our bodies to regulate oxidative stress. In fact i would advise you to NOT overdo it with NO Production increase. Just switch to Spinach and do not use Rocket as this will increase NO very much and also you could deplete Iron stores because of Nitrate consumption.

@gefinauser : I can definitely tell you this was not a coincidence. Tinnitus is over for me, i must look at my log to see when it was the last time i had tinnitus (which meant that a mini-crash occured).

Guys : This was a really tough nut to crack, because downregulation of SRD5A3 causes a multitude of problems, suggesting that we have an acquired multisystem disorder, Thanks to Finasteride.

It now appears to me that what happens is that our body needs to replenish key neurosteroids that were severely depleted so i will have to say once more : Do not expect miracles from the first days but if you stay on the Spinach regimen you will start feeling better eventually (in 20-30 days).

I ordered some strips. Will post the results.

So, what’s the story here. Guys are eating a spinach salad at night? Will that get you up to 50grams?

Is low NO related to libido problems, or brain fog as well?

I was interested in this because I have concerns about glaucoma/eye problems. I think I read somewhere that NO may have an impact on this.

I got the strips yesterday and used it this morning.
So i have below low, i think it called depelted or something.

@gham

Yes, Spinach has Dolichol and Dolichol upregulates a gene called SRD5A3. It appears that Finasteride downregulates permanently (?) this gene which affects Glycosylation. Please look through the thread (last 5 pages i think) or search for Dolichol in the site.

I believe it is best to supply your body with Spinach 3 times a day, a total of 50 gr per day worked for me. Do this at least for a month.

@Jonson,@gham
Low NO levels may be either from Oxidative Stress which our bodies cannot tolerate or some other mechanism is at stake. If possible please have a person to try the NO Strips. I was able to give it to two people to try, one of them was OK but the second one had depleted levels.

If your levels are depleted, try eating rocket for a couple of days and re-test. Again, i am not suggesting that Low NO Levels are the culprit to our condition anymore, BUT Low NO levels are associated with decreased ability to have an erection and vasoconstriction (among other things).

nitric oxide regulates oxidative stress.

@mario

Im retrying the spinach aprpach, starting today.
Are you still recovered?
Do you think it can be juiced? I cant find any info on this…

Cheers

@xptriado

Yes i am perfectly fine. Two more people i know are getting better although not from this forum. I will have them post here when their regimen duration reaches one month so they can give you their experience. Remember, you should follow the regimen for at least a month. Stay away from MSG. Stay away from DHT Inhibitors and Whey Protein.

I don’t think it would be a problem to juice the spinach to be honest. But to be 100% sure, follow the regimen of raw spinach 3 times a day.

Good Luck and please let us know how you are doing.

I’m not sure it’s worth it to juice spinach. My experience is that almost all the spinach gets stuck in the juicer’s grinder and you get very little juice from it.

my grinder juices it pretty well. well enough i think. in any case i can just grind more spinach.
the thing is i really hate spinach in order to eat it but if thats the solution than so be it

why whey protein? im taking pea protein, i dont think thats bad ?

do you eat it with or without any other food?
