Heart Problems

Has anybody dealt with heart issues with finasteride that still hasn’t resolved? Out of all the side effects I’ve had, this one scares me the most. I took it for a week and started having chest discomfort…after quitting it got worse.

I’m short of breath almost all day unless I lay down for a long period of time and avoid too much activity.
Also had heart pain for a while but that went away and I now just have discomfort from time to time.

So I have shortness of breath, dizziness, chest discomfort, palpitations sometimes and most of these things is relieved by lying down but not always.

I had a normal echocardiogram, stress test, almost normal EKG that showed bradycardia and some electrical problems that can be considered normal and normal chest X-ray. Cardiologists and ER completely ignored finasteride and told me it’s anxiety. So far all tests can be considered normal.

I’ve had anxiety, extreme anxiety long time ago from some very bad news and NEVER had shortness of breath.

But I am 100% sure it’s heart.

I can tolerate any other side but I’m shitless scared of heart failure (lifespan is very low). I’ve given up on sex life but would definitely like to have it back.

Has anybody dealt with the shortness of breath? that’s the most scary symptom of all.

Please if you have had any heart problems PFS. Let me know some of your symptoms and what they found and if you have recovered from them.

I am in tears right now not knowing if I will die too soon from these heart issues. I have no more money for more tests at all…no insurance…no job. I’ve been in the ER two times already it’s the only way they can check me out for my heart issues without me paying (right now).

I wonder if I will be alive in a year…

Yeah I’ve got the same symptoms… Magnesium seems to help with the palpitations.

this is just a theory and i don’t know how finanasteride caused it, but finasteride definetely caused these problems that i am talking about below:

i was actually wondering if anyone did have heart issues from finasteride because of high free radicals…

moonman had high free radicals on his test that he did. i’m suspecting it’s because glutathione levels are depleted because of a dysfucntioning methylation cycle.

you really have to cut out junk food, cooking oils, and all the other shit in regular food… if we are indeed depleted in glutathione (this shit is one of the body’s most important anti oxidants), then all the free radicals that are circulating in your body aren’t getting out. free radicals + cholesterol leads to plaque buildup… that’s how people get heart attacks and i think it’s why people get peyroines here.

just get on an all organic diet to get those anti oxidants in and cut out food that may be harming your body…

Bad digestion can also cause chest pains in the right of the chest, though if you are experiencing anything like palpatations or arm pain id highly recommend seeing a doctor or go to hospital

I’ve had some arm pain and really bad chest discomfort for about a month. However during that month of chest pain I could walk 4 hours 5 hours if I wanted, usually activity relieved the chest pain.

That went away almost completely. Palpations also almost gone but in return shortness of breath and mild chest discomfort.

I went to the ER already they ignored it completely and yes you are right they thought it was digestive issues they gave me some Heartburn, acid reflux meds.

Fukin infuriating then all tests are (almost normal).

I would seriously chop my penis off right now in exchange for these sides to go away…

Bryce thanks for your input I think you may be right on the diet. I will try a vegetarian diet from now recommended by a known doctor in the US.

I’m starting to suspect adrenal issues …but why the chest discomfort?

Finasteride impairs smooth muscle and neurological function, both of which are important to your heart. You can read more about potential neural effects by researching autonomous neuropathy here:

Finasteride inhibits both the 5AR2 and 5AR3 enzymes which are found in the heart. Here’s another user that developed heart problems after taking finasteride.

Here’s a study demonstrating that the 5AR2 and 5AR3 enzymes are found in heart tissue, the links aren’t working right now but should be repaired in the future:

There’s a better case to be made here tying in other aspects of finasteride’s physiological impact but the connection is there. As you’re already in the care of a doctor, here are some basic health recommendations after finasteride:

Try a paleo diet with lots of greens. Listen to your body especially if you have signals of impending heart issues and seek medical attention. Heart attacks in young men are not uncommon. Don’t over masturbate, maybe once every three days. Avoid stimulants (including caffeine), grains (including bread and pasta), alcohol, and sugar. Don’t over-stimulate yourself, it can lead to a further crash.

Please keep us updated.

Thanks for all the support guys. Thanks MartinM I’ve read all the studies I have a few ideas of what happened and I think time may be the best healer.

I usually feel better with a lot of rest but not always. Yesterday I went for a walk of 45 minutes(pushed myself) and felt shit after wards but fine during the walk with some shortness of breath.

I’ve researched this entire forum and noticed that people with heart problems either recuperated 100% and some had few posts and never came back, wonder what happened to them. Is there anyway to contact those guys?

I think it is very very important to follow up those with symptoms who either recuperated or who disappeared out of nowhere without letting us know what happened to them.

I had an echo, e k g, stress test, blood tests and nothing abnormal that’s always a bit of relief but the symptoms are living hell.

However, I think I found a way to get the same or more tests done at a very good hospital without paying much.

I will keep you all updated.

Update: Felt completely normal for a couple of hours well almost normal at least brain fog/anxiety/heart problems/breathing gone. About to go to the doctor again today…she wants some blood tests.

But i felt great for such little time. I don’t know what I did…is this a sign for hope?

When I do some jogging, my heartbeat can go somewhat easily to 160-170 bpm. I noticed this in the first time a couple of months ago, when I started taking Dostinex because of extremely high prolactin (for a condition without tumor). I sometimes had it at 100bpm when at rest. Now it is most of the time at 70 when at rest at home. Still jumps up when I do exercise. A cardiologist told me it was sympathetic nervous system hypertone. I’m 29, my cardiologist told me at this age I can withstand pretty good this kind of tachycardia. Obviuously it is not anyway a healthy condition. He told me I could take a beta blocker if I wanted, but it wasn’t clinically necessary. He also found I have bradychardia when I do the Valsalva Maneuver.
I also had some palpitations in the time I used finasteride and after I stopped it. In this second period, everything was always worse when I was worried about all this mess, sometimes extremely worried.
I never had heart issues prior to Finasteride.

Dostinex doesn’t give tachycardia, so I am actually waiting to withdraw it ad see if everything goes back to normal. This is scary, yes, but well, I am really starting to stop worrying about everything. Anxiety will prevent from healing most conditions. In fact it can really worsen the situation. If I die, well, I prefer to do not give a shit about it. I decide to accept this with some irony. In any case I am seeing some improvements since I imposed myself to keep calm and started using relaxation techniques. Anxiety is to abolish, expecially considering we all probably have allopregnanolone reduction, which is an anxiolytic neurosteroid. Keeping calm, continuously enough, might improve steadily this condition; on the contrary it is not to exclude that anxiety might worsen it. And this condition reflects on many symptoms.

so it felt like I was close to a myocardial infarction, at first I thought shit you f…ked your heart because I knew nothing about PFS … then came this totally irregular heartbeat, palpitations, my lungs worked well only for about half of all I could not breathe deeply through the lungs as if was half filled with water … I almost passed out after minutes football because as I said my lungs did not work properly … what we’ve done to our selves shit … my son, he’s only 9, totally distraught, i mutated within weeks of superman to terminally ill . sorry i am currently really bad on it…
when I took tamoxifen for three days, it was as if a kind of spasm was solved of my vaskuleres cardiovascular system, can breathe deeply again and do not have this almost infarction after three stairs…
Please forgive if I act here too negative, I’m just a little shocked …

Had everything you had with the heart and severe massive chest pain that lasted for weeks. Shortness of breath accompanied the chest pain. I felt like I was going to die. Like a heavy anvil being continuously pressed to the middle of your chest. I also had limbs fall asleep out of nowhere, even while simply sitting or driving a car. Tingling finger tips. Hands going numb in kinda’ cold weather in only one minute of exposure. Very scary stuff. All my tests came back normal as well. Be well. Eat well. Never lose hope. PM me if you need some chat or advice. Peace.

This past year (been off finasteride 2+ tears) heart palpitations began which I recently had checked out at the doctor. I thought it was anxiety for the longest time, but began taking my pulse and notice my resting heart rate is much faster than it used to be, even when I do feel mentally relaxed. I have changed my diet to a more raw/ organic based diet, less sodium, no caffeine but haven’t noticed much change. Before bed and waking up, the rhythm of my heartbeat has changed dramatically, the second beat being just as fast, if not faster, then the first. I am going to see a cardiologist in a few weeks to be safe. This scares me more than any of the other side effects I have had.

What kind of a doctor do you go to that is open to this condition to receive such treatment? I have been to two endocrinologists who heard of PFS but offered no solutions, and a urologist who defended Finasteride.

I had to try many doctors until i found an endocrinologist who listened to me, looked at the 23andme results (my genome data) and he said that i am doing the right thing.

When you say irregular heartbeat, do you experience bradycardia as well?

Hi, no not bradycardia necessarily, but a consistently faster resting heart rate, all the time. Heart palpitations, where my heart feels like it is going to jump out of my chest, even when I am just trying to relax, reading or watching TV. If I am not moving I feel my heart beating all the time. Never experienced this in life until the months in going off Propecia (along with many other sides, including fat gain of 20 lbs in hips and chest and buttocks).

I experienced all of these things as well. Have these problems become better for you from eating well, exercising, etc.?

My average heart rate was 110 before this shit i had sinus tachicardia, now its 60. Unbelievable.

Abnormal heart rate and blood pressure can be caused by a million other things (like as simple things as obesity). Water fasting is very effective at normalizing these. With google you can find a lot of readings on the topic (for example: vegsource.com/articles/goldh … essure.htm ) and I am a living evidence that water fasting can decrease blood pressure and normalize abnormal heart rates. Before fasting I usually woke up with extremely high heart rates (around 100 and often above it) and I also reached very high rates with moderate physical activities. These problems completely gone after a few days of ending my fast.

That’s interesting, high blood pressure and unusually high heart rate (as well as difficulty slowing heart down after exercise) are two definite side effects of PFS. Let us know if your blood pressure and heart rate remain normalized

My blood pressure and heart rate problems are gone for about a month, but we will see what the future brings… In the last 2 months I’ve gone through some incredibly major changes physically and I would be surprised if that simply rolled back (especially because it was a gradual change and not the result of some stupid magic pills).

In the future I will be changing between water fasting and heavy training periods so we may not see how quickly the effects of a single water fast would fade (if some of the effects would fade at all). I will do as long fasts as I can afford followed by 1-2 months of brutal trainings - mental challenge followed by some physical ones. I was also wondering whether you can enter the most valuable and most healing ending period of fasting more quickly if you have less fat (as I don’t really have fat now)… Although most PFS guys seem to gain fat and boobs (like I did) there are still some genetically gifted skinny guys around here and I would be interested how long fast can they afford and how quickly do they enter the healing period of fasting.
