hi my name is yosef from egypt
i am 25 years old married for a year now
i am on 1/4 pill of proscar since 9/09
i tried with my wife to have ababy since we married
failed first 3 monthes then i made a semen analysis on 15/1/10
my sperm count was 180 million per ml and around 260 mil in total
my wife got pregnant this month but then got through abortion
we tried to concive again since then with no result
theeeeeeeen…
i had another semen analysis on 30/8/2010 … and had the total horror
my sperm count turned to only 5 million per ml
i searched the net and found this forum and directly stoped the drug
i have not felt any thing wrong with my sexuality … or may there is but i do not know since i have not had sex till i married !!
i am asking now can finasteride do this ??!!
and if why that did not happened in first 6 months ?
and can it do this sever drop ?
can it go back to normal??
what time for that ??
i have no varicose or any other condition affect sperm count
can this semen analysis being wrong

Merck skirted this issue by stating the fertility issues are not known. A common pattern for post fin users is to have LH, FSH, testosterone levels drop.

You need to get a blood test to see where your levels are at. Your LH level shows the level your brain is telling your testicles to make testosterone also your fsh level shows the level of sperm production you have going on. If these levels are low, your doctor may be able to give you hcg supplementation to increase your sperm production.

Welcome to the forum, I’m Sorry to her about your situation.

Yes, unfortunately this is a very common side effect caused by the use of propecia. I also had the same problem and only discovered it after testing like you did.

You should most likely be able to conceive a child with your wife. You might have to resort to something like In Vitro fertilization (IV treatment), which I image you are familiar with; and it is quite expensive.

First of all you should get off proscar if your taking it (I assume) for male pattern baldness. There is a protcol on this site for discontinuing use.
