Hey guys, I remember stumbling across this website in July, and wanted to come back and share my brief story…
I’m a 25 y/o regular guy like the rest of you, and, once I realized that my hairline was starting to recede, I went into panic mode. I always knew I was going to bald, since my brother cut his hair at 19, but, I had a flowing afro and was NOT ready to part ways! So, I began taking propecia on Oct 10, 2003…The first few years, it worked wonders for my hair. I grew it all back (at a slower rate), but, was able to have long flowing dreadlocks…
However, earlier this year, I began to realize changes in my erections and sex drive. I had a very active sex life, but once I broke up with my gf in 2006, I went 2 years without sex. At the time, I thought out-of-sight out-of-mind, and that I was simply working too much. Plus, I had other hang-ups about sex, and simply passed this off as the root of my decreased sex drive. But, I can now say, without a doubt, it was the propecia. And, around April, I began to notice changes in the size and shape of my erect penis. Over 2-3 months, I loss 2 inches of length, the girth shrunk as well, I had protruding veins that were not there initially, the tip/head of my penis began to curve upwards (I was sure it was peyronne’s), and, the strength of my erection was rather poor (when erect, my penis had a rubbery feel).
Again,I didn’t think twice about it until I began having sex with my new gf and simply couldn’t keep it up. There was no feeling in the shaft, and the strength, duration, and frequency were all severely impacted…I then realized it was the propecia, asked my doc what I should do and he recommended stopping cold turkey to see if things change to see if anything would change…
I read a few things on this site about the adverse effects of stopping cold turkey, and decided to ween myself off…I started off taking 3/4 a mg, then, the following week, 1/2, then, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16…In addition, I began taking baths everyday (not sure if it played a role, but thought the spread of blood flow was a good idea), and also started taking Maca Men from GNC, again, to help bloodflow to the extremities. Also, I’m pretty active, and have always been an athlete, so I continued to workout daily, mainly focusing on cardio, but also weight lifting, to try and help boost testosterone, and took Omega-3 pills twice a day. Now, I’m no doctor, and not sure if any of these factors, whether individually or collectively, played a role in my road to recovery, but I wanted to explain the things I did to help recover from this terrible drug…
Since stopping propecia, it has been a road to recovery, each day closer and closer. I’ve gained some of my length back (loss 2 inches, now about 0.5 shorter than before), gained some of the girth as well, but the strength of erection is stronger than its been the last 2 years…My sex drive is going crazy, and I finally wake up with morning wood (again, something not experienced in 2 years). Over the last few months, the curvature and slight pain experienced when erect in May has reversed, and I no longer feel pain and my erect penis has begun to straighten itself out (prob wasn’t true peyroinne’s, simply an adverse reaction to the procecia)…
Again guys, I simply wanted to come and share my story. I know when I found out about propecia, I was excited, never missed a day, and it worked wonders for the regrowth of my hair. But, its not worth the compromise of our overall health, confidence in the bedroom, and ability to please our significant others. I hope that my story and road to almost recovery has been inspirations to some of you guys, and I wish you the best as we try to recover from this drug thats issued without proper warning…
