The hops in beer is a 5ar inhibitor and the resveratrol in wine is a 5ar inhibitor.
Any studies on hops that you have seen?
Come across a lot on hop’s ability to inhibit 5aR and the obvious estrogen related issues, but I feel like I need some solid scientific proof to give up the sweet sweet IPA/APA…
Did not find any studies but from this article:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-alpha-r … _inhibitor
“Further dual phytotherapeutic 5a-reductase inhibitors include, among other extracts of Pygeum africanum, Artocarpus altilis (breadfruit), Thuja orientalis, Laminaria saccharina, Arnica montana, Cinchona succirubra, Eugenia caryophyllata (cloves), Humulus lupulus (hops), Hypericum perforatum (St Johns wort), Mentha piperita (peppermint), Rosmarinus officinalis, Salvia officinalis (sage) and Thymus officinalis; furthermore, diterpens, flavins, and isoflavonoids such as genistein and daidzein, lignans, resveratrol, curcumin, and certain polyunsaturated fatty acids.”
OK, thanks.
That article also quotes zinc as a 5aR inhibitor, based on a ridiculous study where they applied zinc sulphate to human skin cells in a petri and saw complete enzyme inhibition. The problem being, giving a human this much zinc would most likely kill them. So I’m just not sure of the credibility of the articles author…
