WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO LOSE OUR HAIR IF.....

I’m a post-propecia victim like all of you. I have a question.

If we have been robbed of our sex drive and our testosterone and proper levels of DHT and other hormones…why is my hair loss continuing??

There was a case in hisotry (i forget the country) where they would castrate prisoners. Once the testicles were removed from the prisoners, doctors noticed that none of them lost hair. They all had full heads of hair.

If my fucking balls arent working and my dick is softer than a wet noodle…why the holy fuck am I still losing my mother fucking goddamn hair?

Ever consider it bizarre that minoxidil improves hair growth, but doesn’t effect androgen? There are more factors involved in hair loss. Further, this is not a hair loss forum, so please direct your hair loss questions to those types of forums. Thanks.

That’s clearly not a straightforward hairloss question. It’s a question about hairloss as it relates to our condition, and what that can tell us about the nature of that condition.

It’s perfectly reasonable to ask on this forum: if we suppose that our condition is caused by some kind of androgen deficiency or insensitivity, then why are we still losing hair?

The first part of the answer that you gave is fairly reasonable, too. Male pattern baldness is not only about androgen action at the scalp. I suspect, however, that it androgen action at the scalp is a necessary component.

I’d also add to your answer that if you read the forum you’ll find that plenty of users report a halt in hairloss, or significantly decreased hairloss, as part of their condition. I’ve lost no hair since I quit 10 months ago, and my hairloss was extremely agressive before Propecia.

The answer, then, seems fairly simple. If you have our condition and you’re still losing hair, that simply shows that you have enough androgen action in your body to maintain the hairloss process, but not enough to sustain proper libido/erections/whatever. Probably you have follicles that are very sensitive to DHT, so it only takes a little androgen action for balding to occur. Probably you’d be losing hair at a much faster rate if it wasn’t for your Propecia-related condition.

one possibility is what SCARED said,a second one is that maybe for libido and sexual functions, not only androgens are involved but something more …

Yeah, I think the reason might be that we may have never needed propecia, because some were merely naturally balding, and others are sensitive to the chemical changes still ongoing in body, even after stopping?

before starting,…I had thick hair before, but was merely receding. I lose hair everyday now and it looks really limp/weak/ thinner and dead overall. The overall texture and health is extremely bad. I’m terrified and nervous enough. 7 months off and still falling out…what the fuck?

Please who has the REAL answers?..anyone?

The answer that I gave is the real answer.

You’re losing hair because you have male pattern baldness (MPB). A receding hairline is a hallmark of that. MPB typically starts with receding temples.

You took Propecia, and now you have the post-finasteride syndrome. Your hairloss is not a part of that syndrome: it is not another side-effect of having taken Propecia that will stop at some point. It’s an expression of natural androgen function in your body. It was there before you ever took Propecia.

Clearly, from what you say about your continued hairloss, your post-Propecia syndrome has not halted the progression of your MPB. For some guys it does, for others it doen’t.

Also, we don’t have the post-Propecia syndrome because we were “just naturally balding” and so didn’t need Propecia in the first place. My hairloss was definately classic androgen related MPB, and I now have the post-Propecia syndrome.

Given that our best estimate is that the post-Propecia syndrome is about androgen insensitivty, my guess is that you’d be losing hair faster if it wasn’t for your condition.

As with all MPB, your hairloss will stop once all the hair on the top of your head has gone. Who knows how long that will take. But seriously, given the health problems you are facing, do you really care?

Before I go on- No one on my mothers side or pops side was/is bald
(grandfathers included)

However, I think there is a clue here as to why we are sick…how can “my own original hair” (which was previously in a healthy state prior to prop), is now still falling out daily, and reduced to a flat, unhealthy, and sickly looking wig? (7 months after stopping!) I took this poison only to correct a receding hairline. What a mistake! The rest of my hair was alright and thicker than a bush.

There is a potential clue here somewhere as to why we are still sick…the drug may potentially utilize a “kill off process”, as it is stopped entirely, in it’s wake it leaves damage not only to your health, but “noticeable” damage externally, as well as to the entire organism.

A Merck ploy to have people continue to take this HORRID drug. I wouldn’t doubt it…Merck Rep: “Your sick now since stopping? maybe you should go back on the drug to feel better!$” You catch my drift?

This IS dangerous ground Merck is tilling, as this is obviously a ruined quality of life issue, as well as a disabling and crippling health issue. All of our symptoms are almost the same…and the bottom line, is that we are all sick, and our quality of life is suffering, as the result of a greedy mba run drug company, who is clearly withholding important data, which would help us all try to figure this out.

I would liken us all to a snake bite victim, who is in desperate need of an antidote for the poison.
