Whenever browsing Wikipedia, be vigilant

Hello all,

If you happen to browse Wikipedia at any given moment for whatever reason, please keep this in mind.

It is important to know that we as patients are not the only ones with the burden of proof as far as this condition and related matters are concerned.

If you ever encounter statements on any given Wikipedia page about anything related to this condition or a claim about the safety of related drugs that is unsourced (e.g. it doesn’t have a numbered link to a source between square brackets after the sentence), please add a {{Citation needed}} tag after the sentence, or any other tag that is appropriate for the case, to request further elaboration or at least incite healthy skepticism with readers.

Similarly, if you encounter content that is outright false or inflammatory towards patients with our condition(s), such as the suggestion that this disease is the result of delusion or some mass psychosomatic hysteria, feel free to delete these statements completely.

For example, the Medication subsection of the Libido page said the following (as of time of posting):

There are several ways to try to reap the benefits of the antidepressants while maintaining high enough sex drive levels. Some antidepressant users have tried decreasing their dosage in the hopes of maintaining an adequate sex drive. Results of this are often positive, with both drug effectiveness not reduced and libido preserved.

There were no sources or examples provided for any of this. Most of it reads as apologetic commercial rhetoric. So, I turned this into:

There are several ways to try to reap the benefits of the antidepressants while maintaining high enough sex drive levels.[ citation needed ] Some antidepressant users have tried decreasing their dosage in the hopes of maintaining an adequate sex drive.[ examples needed ][ citation needed ] Results of this are often positive[ citation needed ], with both drug effectiveness not reduced and libido preserved.[ why? ][ citation needed ]

This way, you don’t really have to change anything or add new content and can still protect Wikipedia as a neutral ground with correct information, simply by making fair skepticism public by adding tags in the right places.

I’m not asking anyone to be spending a lot of time scouring the internet to find stuff like this. It’s not a very fun activity and I would rather advise people to spend their precious time appropriately. Just a thing to keep in mind, for those of you who do like to visit Wikipedia now and then and have had some kind of academic background in citing sources and whatnot. Your efforts, no matter how tiny, are helpful.
