What to ask Doctor?

Hey guys,

Sorry if it’s here somewhere and I just can’t find it… but, I’m going to the doctors Monday or Tuesday, hopefully and want some advice.

I remember when I went to the doctor a year ago about propecia symptoms - he didn’t want to send me to an endo. Said “nothing they can do.” I just had to wait 6 months for the chemicals to leave my system.

I don’t really want to piss him off since I may need documentation from him later on…

I want him to do a prostate exam/PSA test and liver tests.

He did (what he thought was) extensive bloodwork on me last year when I went in. It came back okay according to him. I’m pretty sure he didn’t check lh or fsh or whatever, amongst other things.

Just wondering what tests I should ask for… keeping in my mind that if I ask for too many, I could honestly see him saying “you’ll be fine, you got all these tests a year ago blah blah blah”.

He actually did say last year, “you got 250 dollars worth of tests my friend!”.

I think my stress is coming out in my posts - worried about my liver, now. :frowning:

I hate to sound negative here, but there is nothing they can do for you. I would recommend seeing one of the big four rather than wasting your time. The regulars on here will tell you to print out studies etc. and try to plead your case as to finasteride being the culprit of your hypo-gonadal symptoms.

I saw the chief of endocrinology/andrology at Mayo clinic and brought in the studies and the faqs etc. He basically told me to get bent. Then I went to another endo who seemed to be more open minded about the situation. After my blood work came back and appeared normal, he began to resist me. Once they can’t figure it out they resist you rather than searching for another solution. This recent doctor even went as far as doing some research, but said he couldn’t find anything that was proven ‘clinically’. They don’t like to see patients come in and try to tell them that something is wrong that is not proven medically. Its insulting to them.

They will resist you with tests you ask for too. The short list under the faqs section on this forum will be the ones you want.

I would strongly recommend only seeing doctor’s referenced on this forum. I believe there is one in Canada as well. There is no documented evidence that they have cured anyone with this disease, but at least they will do the proper blood testing for you and prescribe medicine (to take at your own risk) to help improve your situation.

Proscarred is right. They just act like your an idiot and give you a smug smile. I’ve called some very prestigious medical institutions (Cleveland Clinic for one) and they say the same thing - Cant be anything related to Propecia and once its out of your system all goes back to normal. So, going to see Shippen on Oct. 6. Its great to at least call an office and have them acknoledge something is wrong. I guess I just hope Shippen can see what went wrong and help me deal with it until, hopefully and God willing, someday I get back to normal. Shippens office are very noncommittal about how much they can help anyone with this and say “its treatable, but only 40% of people see any recovery.”

I’m not expecting them to give me another pill to cure what symptoms I have remaining… I do want to know the exact state of body.

I would like to know if anything changed and hope a few tests will tell me. I have read that the liver can heal itself of some issues.

It’s probably been 7 years since I had a prostate exam.
