I’ve tried searching on this forum and on places like Reddit about food, but most of what I find are long lists of foods people say you shouldn’t eat. The lists are so extensive that it leaves me wondering what is actually safe, or at least theoretically as safe as possible. It seems almost every fruit and vegetable has the potential to make things worse, but I don’t think these should be avoided entirely with a carnivore diet. The higher vitamin C content in fruits and vegetables is likely very important for those with PFS, given the condition’s impact on collagen and skin, at least I would have thought so.
Does anyone have any food suggestions? I’m mainly interested in which fruits and vegetables might be the best options as it seems meat, eggs and dairy are less problematic and we don’t need to be as picky with them. But please let me know about those too if there’s something important.
I’m trying to maintain as balanced a diet as possible with a range of those food sources (fruit, veg, meat, eggs and dairy) to cover different nutrients and hopefully give my body what it needs to support healing and overall wellbeing.
I’d like to avoid foods that affect hormones as much as possible (although it seems most things have some effect to an extent, so I’m looking for foods with minimal impact). Ideally, I’d like to follow a diet that doesn’t alter hormones such as 5AR or estrogen levels or receptors in either direction, as I don’t think it’s really known what’s best in that regard. Some people seem to react negatively to things that raise certain hormones, while others react to those that lower them. I’ve mostly seen this in the context of supplements, but if that’s the case there, it seems reasonable that food could have similar effects too.
With that in mind, I’d like to try a diet of more neutral foods that still provide vitamins and minerals to give my body the raw materials it needs to hopefully recover / improve naturally.
If you think this approach isn’t the best, but there are specific things we should be aiming to raise or lower through diet, please let me know.
I initially asked ChatGPT and Gemini which compounds in food have a notable effect on 5AR in any way. Below I’ll copy and paste that, along with their follow up lists of fruits and vegetables that are low in those compounds.
If anything stands out as incorrect, as AI sometimes is please let me know. And also please comment any of your own suggestions, or general thoughts on the topic of food.
