Was Michael Jackson a Propecia Victim?

During the latest Michael Jackson trial – in which his mom and three kids are suing concert promoter AEG Live, claiming it hired Dr. Conrad Murray, the cardiologist who gave him a fatal dose of anesthetic – it emerged that the aging superstar was on finasteride.

“Karen Faye, who had worked for Jackson for nearly 25 years, told the jury… that the King of Pop had been taking Propecia to grow more hair,” the New York Post reports today.

In all my reading up on Propecia, I had never heard this about Jackson. And I believe this is the first revelation of him being on the medication.

Needless to say, given his frail emotional and psychological state, it’s not hard to imagine Propecia speeding Jackson’s descent into suicidal depression.

Thoughts?

Wow…growing hair should have been the least of his worries.

My thoughts exactly.

I would hope that in the future, the medical community is enlightened enough to realize that men with certain emotional and psychological profiles are at greater risk of being harmed by finasteride – and of course refrain from prescribing it.

I thought Jacko was completely bald and wore a wig ?

Yes, but read The Post story – he had SOME hair, which he was trying to grow so that it could be used to anchor hair extensions.

The real point is, Michael Jackson was the last person on earth who should have been prescribed Propecia. It’s not hard to imagine that the drug helped push him over the edge.

Also, had he gone OFF Propecia – and maybe was in the throes of PFS?

That can explain his addiction to Propofol. He probably had awful insomnia. Also, when you add his history of being abused, plus emotional issues, plus anxiety and depression from propecia, i can see how he could have become addicted to this medication.

Good point. And glad you agree with the premise.

Moreover, as a huge Michael Jackson fan, I was angered to learn that Propecia might have played a role in his demise.

Say what you want about him, Michael was not a mere performer. As much as I also admire Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, they wrote virtually none of their own material.

But here are just a few of the songs Michael penned all by himself:

-Billie Jean
-You Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’
-The Way You Make Me Feel
-Black or White
-Bad
-The Girl Is Mine
-Workin’ Day and Night

That repertoire alone should ensure him a place in the Pantheon of all-time greatest composers.

Regarding this being the first revelation of Michael Jackson’s Propecia use, I was mistaken.

Last month in the trial, as the LA Times reported:

Jackson’s longtime makeup artist Karen “Faye said she did request prescriptions in her name for Latisse, which is used to lengthen eyelashes, and the hair-growth drug Propecia so that she could give them to Jackson.”

But what does not make sense to me is how a woman would have gotten a prescription for Propecia.

Sad but interesting. I also believe that Heath Ledger was a victim. I’ve never read that he was on it… but just read about him.

I believe he is a victim of Propecia as well. Again, same combination of tranquilizer and sleeping pills. Why someone so young would be having such a terrible insomnia and anxiety problems? It does seem like propecia to me. He said the week before his death he was sleeping only 2 hours a night.

He seems like the classic case. His hair starting receding at a young age…

I also suspect comedian Richard Jeni may have been a Propecia victim.

Note that he was on anti-depressants and sleeping aids:

Toxicology reports on such cases may be public record. So a good investigative reporter could have a field day here – Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Richard Jeni all done in by Propecia.

I also suspect of german soccer goal keeper Robert Enke. He was balding. Despiste being an athlete and exercising so much, he had been suffering from depression for many years.

Benzos are evil, they produce insomnia/anxiety unless one gets ever increasing dosages. After a few days, you’re hooked and the very thing they are prescribed to “treat” anxiety and insomnia comes back/increases FEROCIOUSLY.

But look at what he said in an interview little time before his death: “Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night…I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.”
This sound so much like my propecia crashes. I would be exhausted, my body claiming for rest, and i just could not sleep. The most i could sleep was two hours a night.
For this very reason i took benzodiazepines myself. And it did not increase my anxiety or i had to ever increase the dose. Quite the opposite. After a few weeks i was able to decrease the dose as my sleep pattern was restored. in a few months i tappered it off without any problems. Depending on the benzodiazepine you use, and with a good doctor, i believe it is safe if used for a short period of time.

I think it would really aid our case if we could show one or any of these men were taking Propecia prior to their suicides. My Google searches thus far have been fruitless…

Smoking Gun on Richard Jeni:

Lists 3 doctors that provided care including phone numbers for each. A lawyer should be able to find out if he was on Propecia. Also interesting is that he was on Remeron. That is the anti-depressant several PFS guys, including myself, take, as it is one of the few that helps with PFS induced insomnia. Interesting…

Let’s hope that someone in the media makes the connection between Michael Jackson’s behavior and that of PFS sufferers. If so, then other, shall we say, cold cases, will be looked into.

Here’s a more thorough report of Karen Faye’s testimony:

this would be interesting the only person who could know is his wife. but I’ve heard that rooney wants to take propecia again because his non-transplantated hair starts to fall out …good luck mr. rooney :unamused:
