Vitex (Chasteberry) and other options that may help with prolactin and progesterone

I, like many others on here had high progesterone, and I’m thinking I still might since I feel like my libido has gone back down slightly after a brief full recovery, probably cause I started using that goddamn tea tree oil shampoo, along with topical spironolactone.

For this reason I’m probably going to try some Vitex, there’s a lot of info, and I’m sure all of you are capable of using google.

I really wish I would have found out about this herb earlier.

If you are really still having some bad problems after using Vitex for a while, you may want to consider talking to your doctor about getting a prescription for Cabergoline (Dostinex) or Bromocriptine (Parlodel). Be very cautious about using any meds though as they do have side effects, not to mention being expensive.

Also high doses of vitamin B-6 are supposed to be helpful.

Mucuna pruriens is also another herb that might help. Be careful with this herb if you are taking an MAO-I inhibitor though… it might have psychedelic effects! I’m sure the last thing you guys need is to start tripping out :astonished: . Also be cautious, as it is a dopamine precursor, and dopamine precursors might only give temporary relief.

Also, I believe overall just not masturbating should bring prolactin levels down. Prolactin is released after orgasms to keep your libido down. The evolutionary reason for this, anthropologists speculate, is to promote bonding with the female so you don’t run off right after looking for someone else to fuck!

Hope that helps.

You should be aware that Vitex (chasteberry) can have different responses on prolactin levels in men, ie higher dosages reduce Prolactin while lower dosages may promote it.

"Human data:

In a placebo controlled crossover double-blind study of 20 healthy men, vitex had different effects on prolactin release at different concentrations.

Men received doses of 120 mg, 240 mg or 480 mg of a special vitex extract (BP1095E1) daily for 14 days.

There was a significant increase in prolactin level in men receiving the lowest dose, but a slight reduction in prolactin level in those receiving the higherdoses.

There were no significant dose-dependent changes in the 24-hour serump rolactin profile.

The changes that occurred during the treatment period depended on the baseline prolactin levels of the individual subjects

Original study:

grande.nal.usda.gov/ibids/index. … erow=46028

The effects of three doses of a special Agnus castus extract (BP1095E1)–extracts from 120 mg, 240 mg and 480 mg of drug per day–were examined within the framework of a placebo-controlled clinical study of tolerance and prolactin secretion in 20 healthy male subjects during a period of 14 days.

There was good tolerance during the study as regards the following: adverse effects, the effects on blood pressure and heart rate, blood count, Quick’s test, clinical chemistry as well as testosterone, FSH and LH values.

During each study phase the 24-hour prolactin secretion profile was measured from the penultimate to the final day, and the amount of prolactin release was monitored an hour after TRH stimulation on the last day.

A significant increase in the 24-hour profile was registered with the lowest dose in comparison to placebo, the opposite being the case with the higher doses, i.e. a slight reduction.

In contrast to the administration of placebo, the 1-hour AUC after TRH stimulation resulted in a significant increase with the lowest dose and a significant reduction with the highest dose.

The results suggest effects of the special Agnus castus extract which are dependent on the dose administered and the initial level of prolactin concentration.

Wow that was really helpful. The type I ordered is 300mg of the extract… maybe I’ll hold off until later.

I was speaking of B6, apparently a form of vitamin B6, Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, is especially good at controlling prolactin levels, as suggested by steroid using bodybuilders…
