Video Q&A with Nicholas

Hi Guys,

This is Nicholas, aka “velocity” on this forum. Some of you may be familiar with the FOX investigative report I was a part of in the video linked below.

It has been quite a journey since 2008 as I’ve dealt with the wide range of effects from Post-Finasteride Syndrome. I feel as though I’ve been through hell and come out the other side bruised and still injured, but accepting and increasingly optimistic about the future. PFS has been an utter nightmare that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Few of us in the world can fully comprehend what its uniquely brutal turmoil does to us. But with a lot of work on the hormonal, physical, psychological, cognitive, relational and spiritual dimensions of life that PFS disrupts so substantially, I have seen some positive progress.

I’d like to take this opportunity to open up to any questions you might have. I want to share my experiences and insights and do anything that might help you feel more calm, knowing another guy like you has been through this nightmare. I would like to encourage everyone to be vocal about their struggles with those in your life; don’t keep it secret.

Feel free to ask me literally anything. If you want to know gory details, so be it. Theories? Sure. Psychological, physical, cognitive, spiritual… Anything.

Post your questions here in as short and succinct manner as you can. In 2 weeks, I’ll take all the questions in this thread and answer as many as I can via video. The answers and discussion with be posted on yourtube for you all to see.

(Please make it easy on me and don’t post discussion on this thread. Just your best questions. Thank you!)

Kind regards,

-Nicholas

You look great Nicholas. Thank you for having the balls to go on television and not hiding yourself, that is very brave.

I guess my first thoughts are: what treatments and life changes have helped you? what is your status in detail if possible in regards to sexual, mental, physical?

Good luck man. Thank you.

Hey man, kudos for having the balls to do this interview. Can you be more specific on what you have done to see “some positive progress” and what that progress is? Thanks.

Nicholas, that is so courageous of you to do that interview. You have made a substantialy contribution for all of us who suffer with PFS.

Anything to help lend a bit more of a voice to all you guys… I care about everyone here and know what you’re going through.

You can also pm questions on this forum, or email to [edit: email redacted - pm for email address] if you’d like to keep your personal question private. Also please let me know if you’d like me to mention your name of username in the post, or if you want it anonymous. Anything else I’ll keep totally private.

Thanks!

Hey Nicholas, feel free to answer this question on video citing my username as the questioner.

To what would you attribute the significant progress you have made?

Anyone else have any questions for Nick?

Has Nick recovered from PFS?

I think its pretty funny he went out looking for this drug to deal with hairloss…

Personally i went to my doctor complaining of itchy scalp headaches, insomnia and hairloss and he says well you can take some drug called Propecia to stop the hairloss. Then says i know your father is bald if you want to stop it take this drug. I then went to the pharmacy in a delusional state due to lack of sleep and bought this medication but they had a balance so i had to go back again to get the rest of my prescription. When I went back I said i wanted to return it because I didnt think my hairloss was significant enough and i didnt like the idea of possible side effects. They told me the medication was safe and i couldnt return it so I had these stupid pills sitting in my room for four months until one day I take it because my hairloss did eventually get worse and I was under the impression that it was perfectly safe.

Now that I actually stand back and look at it I see that Finasteride is the most brain dead retarded drug to hit the market. Its like oh yeah the way it works is by blocking natural hormone processes this isnt going to screw you up at all, I feel like doctors should have the common fucking sense to realize you dont prescribe fucking cancer medication to kids for hairloss.

Necro that is a great statement “I feel like doctors should have the common fucking sense to realize you dont prescribe fucking cancer medication to kids for hairloss.”

So True!!!

Well my main point is I strongly believe that men in the 18-25 yr range are probably most likely to get hit by long term side effects because chances are we may not have a fully developed HPTA. I think the men who are as young as 18 taking propecia for hairloss are probably rediculously masculine guys with so much DHT in their system that taking propecia doesnt phase them. I would imagine guys who are more vulnerable to Propecia probably have little bodyhair and sparse beard growth and tend to look younger than they are with the exception of hairloss.
Before taking propecia I personally tried taking saw palmetto and nettle for about 5 months with no side effects and had a rediculous sex drive.

Excellent video, Nicholas. Thank you.

I’m curious, do regular measure blood values for hormones and signaling substances that influence libido (e.g., TSH, prolactin, serotonin, parathyroid hormone, etc.)?

I don’t think your theory is right. I am very hairy (chest, belly, legs, arms, beard). By 14 i already had a ton of body hair. It makes me believe i had a ridiculous amount of DHT to begin with (before propecia). And here i am, with PFS.
