total expenses/costs of treamtment

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and didn’t post “my story” yet.

Short: I was on FIN for 5,5 years and stoped 6 weeks ago. After 2 weeks without any effects I have meanwhile heavy ED, lost of weight, I cant sleep, Tinnitus and brain-fog. Right now i am reading the forum and contact several doctors.

One Question: How mhuch did you spend in total for test treatments and so on. I am asking because I already spent almost 1000$ for blod test, semen test, hormon test, tinnitus treamtment. As most of it isn’t covered by health insurance (in germany) I have to pay it on my own.

Regards from Germany.

Over the last 7-8 months I’d say I’m over 10k in doctors appointments, phone consults, bloodwork/labs, perscriptions, supplements, travel expenses, time off work, etc. All costs I wouldnt have incurred if I hadn’t gotten sick due to Finasteride. Adds up fast. Most who have sought treatment I think have similar costs. For the moment I figure I’m looking at that sort of expense or more for the forseeable future. More labs coming up shortly- I need another full hormone panel, transrectal ultrasound, and a lab to check for specific genetic mutations.

I’ve had no improvement but I don’t consider it money wasted by any means. Seeking treatment adds to awareness and to the medical literature. Thats not to say you jump into TRT or any treatment you’re not comfortable with.

You many want to contact Karolinska Institute. Some European members see an andrologist there and they are considering a Propecia study. If you’re in northern Germany it wouldnt be too far to travel.

Probably about $3,500-$4,000 in the last 4 months…

edit: I also have insurance but…

Emergency room visit due to panic attacks and suicidal thoughts… $750

Supplements and Meds not covered ($1500-$2000)

Jacobs phone consult: $550

Misc Doc visits, traveling, etc… prolly about $500-$1200

I am insured, however with deductibles etc and cost of PFS doctor Crisler which is not covered by insurance. I have incurred approx:

Deductibles: 1000
Crisler: 575

Supplements I would otherwise not be taking: 500

1 year off.

I have spent over $2000 so far, and for someone who is not very well of financially it really hurts. I have been to Dr Jacobs a number of times and been on Testim which is not cheap. Dr Jacobs is a great doc and a really nice guy but like Dr Irwig has said, there is no treatment for this condition at the present time. Today I am no better off than I would have been if I had not seen a doctor for this condition.

In addition to seeing Dr Jacobs I have seen several reputable doctors in the city I live in. I think the reason they offer us no solutions at this point is because we don’t know why PFS is occuring. I kind of see it as like treating a patient with wieght gain due to hypothyroidism by putting them on a strict diet and exercise regimen. The underlying mechanism which causes the weight gain is lack of thyroid hormone, treating the symptoms wont really improve the situation becuase the underlying cause is not addressed.

I have probably spent around £300 on different supplements in order to try and feel better. I am now just bringing my spending down to the key supplements that I will remain taking and also cialis from time to time.

I have spent about £350 on supplements and a couple of meds recently. I know it might sound like nothing to those of you who have spent far more but as university student with no job, I really am broke. I could be spending the money on so much more. After this though I won’t be spending anymore money on it, I am giving it my all this summer and that is it. After that I will just keep pushing the doctor’s.

Do you have a name of this person? Do you remember where you read about this. I live some 5 blocks away from karolinska. My doctor said he asked around about other users complaining of sideeffects after propecia but that noone heard of it. The doctor is at karolinska (the hospital) not the institute wich is more of research thingy.

would be great if you had som more info.

Cheers!
