  3. Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.

Well I started Propecia in October 2006 and then in March I started to get testicular pain. I decide to wait for a week to see if it went away. It only intensified, so after a week I stopped taking the drug. I started to get a few other side effects… weaker erections, watery ejaculate, and occasionally no orgasm when i ejaculated… my whole sexual system felt very “off” at times.

Here’s something you guys might find interesting:

After 2 months I had gotten back to about 90%. I wasn’t completely sure if what had happened to me was from Propecia. So to test it, I still had a few pills left, I wanted to see if anything would happen.

Well I took one pill, and almost immediately all the side effects came rushing back. I kid you not, after like 10 minutes I got all the old feelings in my sexual center… everything just felt terrible and off. My sexual side effects resumed. I threw those wretched pills in the trash can.

I’d say about 2 months later I had once again recovered to about 90%. Never quite as good as pre-Propecia, but close. I lived a normal life for a while. Then around October 2007 - about 6 months after quitting and 4 months since I had taken the one other pill - my life started to go downhill. My penis started to getting more shriveled up throughout the day, libido faded, erections grew weaker… you guys pretty much know the drill.

Then finally in late November it happened - I hit rock bottom. I was with an incredibly hot girl making out on my couch, she put her hand down my pants and it turns out I was completely soft. I didn’t even realize it until it was too late, I had been focused on her and didn’t even realize my lack of erection. She tried to stimulate me to no avail, and then asked if she was doing anything wrong.

I was so confused, I couldn’t believe it. I excused myself and went into the bathroom and tried to jerk myself desperately but realized it was hopeless.

I realized I was 24 years old and had erectile dysfunction. It had happened 40 years ealier than I ever would have imagined.

Ever since then guys, it’s been pretty flat-line… I seemingly started to get a little better after that when I cut alcohol completely from my diet, but then I quicly plunged right back down to rock-bottom and have stayed there for the past 2 months.

In the past 2 months, I’ve experienced other sides such as penile changes, sexual exhaustion, mental and emotional dullness, poor sleep, anxiety, and poor concentration.

All in all, life is hell. And I have Propecia to thank for it.

So far my regimen of 1 multivitamin, 2 capsules of fish oil, and 50 mg of Zinc a day has not been helping.

I of course welcome your comments if you have any. I am seeing a uroligist on Friday and hope to get blood tests taken, I’m also going to schedule with an endocrinoligist.

Sounds familiar. This surely has made my life miserable. Wonder how many from here turn up on alt.suicide.holiday

Def. see an endo and make a report to Merck!

I just saw a urologist, who offered me no help in anything and only tested by testosterone/prolactin levels. He also would not refer to an endocrinologist. The guy didn’t even check me out (a resident did) and then had the balls to tell me that this was just “normal” for someone in their 20s to experience once in their life, completely ignoring my extensive list of side effects that didn’t fit in with this pathetic theory.

I’m going back to my family doctor to see if I can get the blood tests I need and see if he has any ideas.

Will report back.

:frowning:

Sounds familiar to me too… This delayed drop down in your condition is typical in many cases incuding me.

Propecia/Dutasteride is metabolised via liver. Your story sounds like you had a toxic reaction within your liver, because your sides occured so fast and returned immiedietly when you tried the last pill.

Are you allergic now to some sort of foods, caffeine? It is very common while having liver problems (that’s what my doctor said, and after my liver tests he turned out not to be wrong). Also google on the internet what are the sides of a liver disorder… do you find any similarities?

I suggest you doing liver test first and maybe thyroid too… might be helpfull.

Hmm… I find your liver comments interesting majkellos, my sides worsened when I went to college and started drinking heavily on weekends. I don’t know if they’re related. I have since stopped drinking, but no improvment.

I don’t have any food allergies that I know of, and I rarely drink caffeine or alcohol these days. Mostly water and fruit juice.

I will try to get tested if my doctor will allow it. I have an appointment with my GP in about two weeks.

Hey ThisSucks,

I identify with a lot of what you are saying. We are both young, and it sounds like we have big sexual appetites. I am pretty active in that realm, I have always dated a lot. I knew I had a problem when I had not dated, or even had casual sex, for a year. Then when I did, it was so weak. I felt exhausted and also mentally DETACHED from the whole experience. My junk was numb when I did have sex, and the orgasms were not even that pleasurable, which was a major bummer.

It really sucks dude, I feel like I am getting old before my time, as I am sure you do too. One recommendation I can make, as embarrassing as it might seem, is to give the old blue pill a try. I don’t know, sex might not even be fun to you at this point. For me, I am just trying to get back into a somewhat normal routine… I don’t know, I figure if I treat my body right, maybe it can re-adapt into some sort of sexual normalcy. Considering our situations, there is no shame in taking Viagra… so don’t let you pride F* with you.

Also, I was dating this girl, during the time I was taking Propecia, that was into naturopathics. She was sympathetic to my situation and got me to try some different herbs that seem to help balance things out. Here is what she gave me:

YOHIMBE = African tree bark. It is supposed to help stimulate blood flow down there. It comes in pill or liquid; I recommend liquid (hits the blood stream quicker).
ROYAL JELLY = Taken from fertilizing worker bees, it is supposed to stimulate the area.

SEXUAL VITALITY TONIC = I don’t know if you have Wild Oats stores where you are at; but, if you do, I recommend looking into it… that is the name: “Male sexual vitality tonic”.

I wish you a quick recovery,

Godspeed
