This is big

This study should make all of us pretty mad.

First of all excuse me for being computer illiterate. I do not know how to create a link. But if you google "Finasteride not dose dependent ", the first site will be an interesting article in the hair-restoration-info website. Especially interesting is the conclusion.

In a nutshell it says Merck knew they could give .05 mg of Propecia and achieve the same results as 1mg as far as lowering DHT( 20 x less!). The much smaller dose would be expected to reduce adverse side effects. The FDA also knew this but left it to Merck to set the doseage.

To me this also implies that many people know that Propecia is poison and it’s just a matter of time before critical mass. We should lead the way. Just popularizing this point on this website may save many other Propecia users from suffering our fate and give this forum more popularity, credibility, and good PR.

I know, this is probably on our website somewheres and I haven’t seen it yet.

The complete study is in the Finasteride Studies section, its a sticky called" Study of the FDA files on Propecia".

Sherman Frankel did this study (Professor at U of Penn) and wrote numerous letters to the FDA that Merck is marketing the drug at a dose much higher than it needs to be.

Needless to say, his petitions for dose changes were dismissed.

.20 was shown to be effective, not .05. I have told people for years to use .5mg.

The other side of the argument is .20 will block DHT but Merck claims 1mg is needed for actual regrowth as opposed to just halting hair loss.

I’ve 3 hair transplants so halting fututre hair loss is all that matters to me but I do get crown regrowth on .5 but i also use Nizoral 2% and Rogaine foam

you’re still on finasteride?

Hi Jim

This report says .05gms. Did you read somewheres where it says .2gms. Mute point though. More importantly does Merck have any scientific data like this to show you need 1mg for hair regrowth. If not then they are blowing smoke. I don't know but to me this sounds like a smoking gun in a law suit. A judge would find it negligent if Mercks own data states a smaller dosage would do the same job.

Sure am, almost 10 years now and Propecia rasies my T and ups my libido at .5mg day

I doubt Merck change the data for it to be 1MG unless it really did work better. I mean even if it were.05 mg they would charge the same price

Jim

I’m find it interesting your still on Propecia. You probably already posted your story somewheres. Would you mind telling us what symptoms you do have or had. What brings you to this forum. And what you have done thats helped. As well as anything else you might think of that could help the rest of us. If you already posted it where would that be? You may also want to look at the devils advocate post as it relates to this.

I have never had any side effects from Propecia at .5 mg. I may have had a slight loss of libido at 1mg but was still having sex 6 times in less than 48 hours ( I see my GF on the weekends only for the most part)

I came to the forum at a request of someone an a steroid board. I’m just interested in what this drug is doing to some people. I hope someone figures this out for you guys soon !

This is why I think this is a smoking gun. If I had known about this study i would have tried a lower dose first. And I know for a fact that my doctor would have perscribed a lower dose first and then gone to a higher dose if necessary. This is a general rule of medicine. Trust me on this one. First do no harm!!!

I strongly encourage everyone to read this study. If you don’t gasp at the conclusion your not getting it. There’s not a lawyer in the world that would not gasp (and then smile) at this study. Someone show me where to find the literature on supporting that 1 mg is needed for hair regrowth and maybe I’ll change my tune. Jim let me ask you this since your on .5 mg. Do you feel you are just maintaining hair or did .5mg help you regrow hair.

The exact address is hair-restoration-info.com/eve/fo … 6661087482

oops. The exact address is: hair-restoration-info.com/eve/fo … 6661087482

I probably did but I also use Nizoral and Rogaine plus I’ve had some hair transplants.

I’m sure Merck’s studies with the FDA found 1mg optimal for regrowth. Read what the FDA told that guy who wanted the dose lowered to .20 mg

I will find the FDA’s letters to this guy and read them.
