Went to my doctor today to speak about my current situation: very bad sperm, erection problems and muscle twitches. He told me that he had finally done some research on this topic and found out from official articles that THE SIDE EFFECTS AFFECTING SPERMATOGENESIS MAY TAKE UP TO 84 WEEKS TO SUBSIDE. What do you think of this? Anyone else come across such study? Do you think it may work for other side effects also?
I am sure that 3 months is not the period after what finasteride will leave your organism, so I want to believe in this estimation. Did anyone who quit a long time ago feel a change after 2 years of not taking the drug? Any experiences?
As this is claimed by a doctor you can even move it to the section of studies.
Fanjeera,
It’s pretty sad to say, but I would be very happy if the 84 week number turned out to be right. I have recovered a bunch, but still am not back to 100% normal after a year off the crap. I am still missing the sex drive and not back to the strength I used to have. What is your dr basing this 84 weeks on?YOu said that he did research based on official articles. If he told you that, I don’t think it’s out of the question to ask him what articles specifically he got the information from.
I Also I would also like to hear from guys that have been off of the drug for 2 years or more and if they have recovered close to 100%. I feel we may be able to get close, but for me I feel some things may not be 100% repairable. I feel my stomach will always be sensative from the ulcer that propecia caused. I will probably have to avoid certain foods for the rest of my life.
I for one intend to always stay in communication with you guys on this board and follow through with the class action lawsuit. I believe with the proper tests we could prove that Merck’s statement regarding the recovery time from side effects were not substantiated with the duration of time that would have been required. In other words, they didn’t perform any long term tests beyond a year so their verbage included in the packaging makes them guilty of fraudelent statement. They made baseless statments, that caused many men to continue to take the medication based on their claims.
But what about the sexual part? This one worries me a lot atm. My penis is just so numb and lifeless. I don’t even have the need to masturbate.
What articles are these? Can you ask him to provide you a copy, or the titles of these articles, what journal they are from?
This is important info the rest of us would be interested to see.
I’m seeing him again in March, because he decided that we should just wait for the side effects to subside and do some sperm tests now and then. So that’s a long wait, but I will certainly ask him.
I have also read this some where. I think what I read is it takes 16 months for this shit to comeletly leave your body, cause I guess it stores in your fat cells.thats why u see many people recovering in their second year.I also heard depending how bad you crashed your system it can take between 36-84 months to heal completly.I don’t know if its true, but I know I saw it somewhere
well 2 years doesn’t seem too bad if it meant a full recovery
but i guess it doesn’t judging from what these other guys have to say
i for one have to go with a bit on boston with this
by all means i want to recover a 100%
its just very hard too standing from where i am
still not giving up hope
and yes the not needing to masturbate scares the shit out of me
the fatty cell thing does make some sense on the part about the drug not leaving the body otherwise we would have been fine by now right
regarding big mike’s comment 7 years seems a bit too much
i don’t know by how much my endoctrine system crashed
its not as low as some of the guys here
but on the other hand i jumped off from a much higher cliff
so make what you will out of that
peace
84 weeks? I have been off this drug for 700+ weeks and I am not better.
Article is a bunch of BS.
THAT’S more than 13 years
the drug itself has only been FDA approved for the market since 1992
take your bulllshit elsewhere
that is a horrible thing to say for people trying to recover
But talking about sperm quantity and looks… Has it improved for someone? Not that I would want kids, this is still one of my main concerns. I just don’t feel manly, when my ejaculate doesn’t shoot and look strong.
you and me both man
and worst of all i defintely want to have kids someday
well for me i would have to say after being on 30 days on the drug and 50 days off =no, but check the update on the mandate story for a shock
Have been off for 3 years now. Erections still weak, sperm quantity and quality still bad. Nowehere close to pre-procepia days. Testosterone, Vit D levels still very low.
Had a brief recovery, dont know what caused it. I am tired and now going to see Dr. Shippen.
In three years you did not see any slight improvement in your T-level total and free?
I think most of the people over time see some improvement. for some people very slight and for some more noticeable.
I meant to say 350 weeks, 7+ years and dont tell me to take this bullshit anywhere when i try to help others out on this site, far longer than you ever will.
took finasteride 2006, erections and sexual desire still very low and not usable.
The side effects will subside after 84 weeks of quitting finasteride? I wish that was true. It’s been more than 84 weeks since I’ve quit and I’m still sick from this stuff.
your not helping anybody pal
just getting people to feel worse
I just saw some recovery. I was able to get a very good erection and orgasm that the sperm shot me in the face again. This has happened twice now after quitting Propecia. Hopefully it begins to happen once again like it used to. Atm I’m very happy over this happening.
Good man Fanjeera…hope you keep on recovering. Have you notice improvements in any other areas?
Fanjeera, How long have you been off of the crap? I have seen a big improvement in ejaculation and quality of sperm as well. I’m not sure if there something I have specifically done to improve that for me.
There is hope for you though in that regard. My ejaculate used to just dribble out pathetically; and there was little volume to it. I would say I was still having problems with that about 7 or 8 months ago. I have now been off for a year.
The forceful nature that causes sperm to shoot out is a function of the prostate. I posted a link a while back that describes just how a healthy prosate is responsible for this.
Regarding the 84 week recovery, I tend to believe there is really no set time frame. Everyone will recover at a different pace. I would be very surprised if that doctor provided clinical research that backed this up.
