The Africans: Finasteride Side Effects Could Be Permanent

Kenya’s Standard Digital is running story titled:

“Baldness Drug Wayne Rooney Took ‘Could Cause Permanent Impotence and Shrink Genitals in Some Men’”

The report cites Dr. Michael Irwig’s research, along with Merck hunger-striker Kevin Malley’s case.

Dr. Irwig’s quote is particularly refreshing:

“It’s been very frustrating for a lot of these men because they’ve sought care from medical professionals who have looked at the literature and have not seen a risk of persistent sexual dysfunction. So a lot of these patients have been told to see psychiatrists and psychologists and that it’s all in their head.”

I fully expect that the African public will in fact embrace this idea and take it far more seriously than the western public. This is because contemporary Africa has an established belief in unwanted genital shrinkage. See here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koro_%28medicine%29#Africa. The news about Propecia causing this side-effect will take hold far quicker in Africa than it will elsewhere.

We are in bizarre times when the western public world’s supposed dedication to science is superseded by African superstition. My hope is that through the extreme and radical open-mindedness of our elite medical institutions (Harvard, Baylor, Brigham and Women’s) we can overturn the disgusting idea that this 5-AR inhibitor does not cause permanent and debilitating sexual side-effects.
