Testosterone Fluctuations, or Massive Recovery!!??

Looking for experience and thoughts…

Did my Testosterone crash and Recover or am I experiencing large fluctuations of Testosterone? Or, are these HUGE fluctuations normal - i.e. good value in morning but not even on the scale shortly after 5pm?

Quit in November and have had the following Testosterone Levels:

December 2011: 564 (270-1100)
January 2012: 660 (348-1197)
March 2012: 636 (348-1197)
**May 2012: 211 (167-781)
**June 2012: 288 (348-1197)

**Here is the catch: All the high readings were done in the early morning and the two low readings were done in the afternoon (5:20pm & 5:54pm). Went to an endocrinologist who captured the 201 reading in June and said “yes, you are low and we need to start Clomid treatment”. Endocrinologist did not seem to think it mattered when levels were tested - if level was low enough at 6pm, I had low T. I had prescription in hand and was ready to begin but decided to go back to original Urologist and get a second opinion on Clomid. He said, “I’d like to see that Testosterone in the morning before you start anything…”

I tested a couple weeks ago (7/24/2012) and [u]HOLY SHIT it was 632 again /u!!!

So, either my Testosterone fluctuates by 70% from morning to night, or I had an EVENT where it dropped for a couple of months and has now recovered.

I’m confused on what to do next, because obviously the endo and urologist disagree about whether levels MUST be taken in morning, since endo prescribed HRT based only on afternoon number. Urologist was ready to agree to clomid treatment but I doubt he will say that now, now that a level of 636 came back!! Furthermore, I wonder if the Endo would reconsider their position on HRT after hearing about a 636 level in the morning…

Any thoughts on these fluctuations from morning to afternoon? Should/could there be that much difference (636 vs 211)? Next move…?

My Doctor and Endo both told me to go in the morning when I was getting testosterone bloodwork.

blake, can you get 2 draws on the same day, one at 8.00 am and one at 17.00? There does seem to be a pattern but it’s impossible to know unless you have 2 draws on the same day. T does decline throughout the day. Maybe someone else can chime in if 70% is in the ballpark…

martinM’s suggestion is good. There is a possibility you could have big fluctuations too. I’ve gone from rock bottom to sky high testosterone in the course of three months.

I’m planning on having 2 draws in same day - morning then afternoon. I’ll let you guys know what readings I get. If it indeed comes back good in am and 200’s low afternoon though, I’m gonna be just as baffled as I am now.

Worth mentioning… I have been extremely tired/fatigued in the evening for awhile
