Test Results - your thoughts...?

I’ve been off proscar for 17 months now, and only took 15 mg in very small doses. But my problems persist. Things have gotten considerably better since then, largely due to a better lifestyle I think. However I am still not right, which is why I got blood tests done. I tried to test for everything on the recommended list, but the doctor refused. But I still got some of the important ones done. I’d really appreciate any thoughts on these results, and what I should do/change in response to them. I’m 22 btw, and I’ve put the normal levels of each result in brackets:

TSH 1.8 (0.5-4.7)
LH 4.2 (1.0-6.0
FSH 7 (1.0-7.0)
Prolactin 470 (100-350)
SHBG 24 (15-55)
Testosterone 15 (10-50)
Bilirubin 25 (7-23)
Alkaline Phosphatase 93 (30-125)
ALT/SGPT 29 (5-45)
Potassium 3.7 (3.5-5.3
Sodium 139 (135-144)
Chloride 104 (96-109)
Bicarbonate 28 (24-32)
Calcium 2.38 (2.20-2.60)
Inorganic Phosphate 1.4 (0.7-1.5)
Creatinine 77 (56-127)
Urea level 4.5 (2.1-7.6)
Total Protein 74 (62-78)
Albumin 45 (36-48)

I just wrote down everything I got back from the doc. I expect many of those were irrelevant but I thought I’d write them out in case. He said there’s nothing abnormal except for slightly raised Prolactin, although I reckon I have pretty low testosterone for a 22 year old, and FSH seems pretty high. Any thoughts on these, and what I might do to improve things?

Many Thanks

I agree, your test is quite low… but guess you knew that. It is, at least, in range. Did the doc say anything or did he disregard you saying it was “normal”

Franzfan,

Your prolactin is very high. Cabergoline could be an option for you on that one.

You are missing a lot of hormones on your test. Below are the lists from the testing portion of this site. Next time try to get more of those added to your list. I would make sure you get Free Testosterone added to your list for sure.

Total T is binded and not available for use by your body, so Free T is very important. Most of us guys have very low very T. There is also a lot of data that indicates it’s critical to erections as well.

Hormonal Panel (Blood / 24hr-Urine tests)
Total Testosterone
Free Testosterone
Bioavailable Testosterone
Androstenedione
Androstenediol
DHT (not accurate compared to Adiol-G)
3alpha-diol G (Androstanediol glucuronide-- “Adiol-G” for short): metabolite of DHT, measures 5AR-II activity
Androsterone glucuronide (another metabolite of DHT that measures 5AR activity)
Estradiol (E2) Ultrasensitive
Estrone (E1)
Total Estrogens
LH
FSH
DHEA-S
Vitamin D
Cortisol (24-hour urine sample)
Cortisone
Corticosterone
Aldosterone
Deoxycorticosterone
SHBG
Prolactin
Progesterone
Pregnenolone
17-OH Progesterone
17-OH Pregnenolone
Albumin
ACTH
PSA
TSH
Free T3
Free T4
IGF-1
IGF-BP3
CBC or FBC (Complete Blood Count/Full Blood Count)
LFT (Liver Function Tests - AST, ALT, GGT, Bilirubin, etc.)
Androgen/Estrogen ratio
Testosterone/DHT ratio
17-ketosteroids (24-hr urine sample)

Recommended “short” list:

Total Testosterone
Free Testosterone
Bioavailable Testosterone
Androstenedione
DHT
3alpha-diol G (Androstenediol glucuronide – (“Adiol-G” for short): metabolite of DHT, measures 5AR-II activity
Estradiol (E2)
LH
FSH
SHBG
Prolactin
TSH
Vitamin D

Unsurprisingly he said all was normal. I could see that he really didn’t have a clue about what to do really. I’m going to try taking vitamin B6 + Zinc to lower the Prolactin as I’ve heard that can have an effect. I’m not sure what else to try really. I think I need to find someone in the UK who actually knows what they’re talking about

In the UK, with the NHS, it’s very difficult to get the blood tests we want. I did show my doc the list you wrote down, but he refused many of the tests. It certainly seems though that I can least tell that Prolactin is probably my main problem. I did get estradiol tested over a year ago and it was not out of range so I think that’s not a problem either.

Re. free testosterone, the NHS does not test for this, however I think you can infer the free test. level from the SHBG level, and as mine is not too high, I guess that free test is probably not the issue, rather it is overall testosterone.

I believe if you had a prolactin issue it would be in the thousands, as mew has indicated before. However, perhaps bringing it down may help. who knows.

If you have the cash and you want all blood test, you can always consider a phone consult with jacobs - he does them internationally.

you can try some l-dopa for the prolactin (mucuna pruriens)
