Has anyone tried using a tanning salon to increase vit D during the winter months? Any positive or negative experiences with this?
I got normal vit D, still feel like ass.
A good question, I do, I recommend using the high pressure bed, it has mostly blue light, ask for the bed that has all of the rays that make you tan and not red. They will always try to push you into the beds that burn to build a base tan but just ignore them and go to the high pressure beds. First of all, it utilizes a form of light called “blue light,” which is used in dermatology to kill acne and with a chemical called Levulan to kill of precancerous cells.
So this type of bed is safer and you won’t burn, you will just get more of a bronze, the girls that work at the tanning salon love to tell you how you won’t tan if you go in that bed, but it’s BS and anyway you are going for Vitamin D. Don’t overdo it, just go once to twice a week, I find it definitely helps. Vitamin D is very hard to absorb via supplement, but through sunlight our body creates it and we get our levels up much easier.
Sunscreen companies have lobbied against the sun to sell their shit for years, but I read studies that say people living in tropical environments have the lowest incidence of internal deadly cancers. While the rates of skin cancer is higher, skin cancer is rarely deadly and easily curable. I am not sure the whole vitamin D supplement thing works all that well, I take it anyway, but I was told by my anti-aging doctor that you should go in the sun for 20 minutes a day.
No one can manage to pull that off these days, but I find the tanning salon helps, I def have a mood improvement too, which reminds me I need to go, Vitamin D is also a mood stabilizer.
Hm would it be possible to go and not have your face tanned? I wouldn’t want it on my face, makes you look old fast.
I cover my face after I spray it with sunscreen spray and then put my shirt over it and a bunch of towels, you are right there, I just tan my body. Some light comes through, but very minimal so I end up with some slight color, and with the high pressure bed you don’t burn really.
Thanks JustQuitDut, this sounds worth a try. My vit D levels tested ‘normal’ (whatever that is) but I found that I felt so much better over the summer when I was getting plenty of sun on my body. Since the weather has turned for the worse, have found that vit D supplements don’t really have the same effect.
They don’t, not in my experience, I get that same feeling after the tanning salon.
sun is one thing that really helps
if i sunbath a few days in a row pfs is totally reversed. but than week later or so it comes back
I have used tanning salons over the winter for the first time, due to the near total lack of vitamin D from the sun, and had pretty good if temporary boosts to some symptoms. First time I had strong morning wood the next day and since then have sometimes noticed better mood, at times increased libido and less undelrying anxiety. It all wears off quickly but I’d still recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already done so.
