talldrinkowater's story

I have been feeling like crap for 8 weeks now, and after reading this website for 2 straight days, am feeling more certain that I am affected.

From early 2004 to early 2012 - (8 years) I took finasteride 1mg/day then 1.25mg/day. I stopped recently on Jan 15, and have been feeling serious brain fog, lower back pain, penis pain after urinating, random cramping/shooting pain in my anus region and constant stomach rumbling and gas for the last 8 weeks.

I have recently had a brain MRI, CT scan, lumbar puncture in my spine (for potentially recurring virus I had in early 2011), full scale blood tests twice and heart echo. All have been clean. This upcoming week I am having a colonoscopy and potentially a few other tests.

I would like to be a part of any future study please. I also want to know of any specialists in the San Francisco/Seattle area who have experience seeing patients who’ve complained of similar symptoms as me. Please message me or post to the thread. I would really appreciate it.

Please fill out the information posted in the sticky in this forum above and paste it into your thread here. Some things to get done for sure blood tests, testosterone, free testosterone, estrogen, 3-Adiol-G, DHT, Vitamin D, LH, FSH… and some others.

  4. Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.
—Like most on this site, finasteride did wonders to curb my hair loss, however I am now paying the price in many other ways. I stopped taking the drug during the first few days of 2012 and since then my entire body has crashed. Brain fog, fatigue, inability to concentrate, memory loss, constipation, stomach pain, and love handle area pain are some of the primary symptoms, but others are too numerous to list.

Sexual side effects existed during the time I took the drug, and some have gotten better since stopping it, however the timing of the symptoms within days of coming off the medication- sexual, gastrointestinal, neurological etc are crushing. I have been off it for almost 3 months now (previously said Jan 15, 2012, but it was more accurately 1/1/2012) and have felt bad every day since.

I have undergone numerous tests, including brain CT and MRI, abdominal area CT scan and colonoscopy - all clean. In the past week I have dedicated many hours to learn more on this site, concerned about what propecia/finasteride can do to the body and would appreciate any help from other members.

Thanks.

Can anyone link me to a thread or portion of a thread which details our affliction in a conclusive, well summarized message? I am trying to bring some print-outs with me as I head to my specialist visits and would appreciate the help.
Thanks.
