Synthroid Question - please read

The endocrinologist I was going to gave me samples of Synthroid. While I was on Propecia I always had low T4; recent tests for thyroid have been more in line:

TSH 1.07 Range 0.4-4.50
T4 free 1.0 Range 0.8-1.8
T3 free 322 Range 230-420

She sent me for an ultrasound of the Thyroid which was fine except some very small nodules. The Doctor who performed the tests said these are quite common and normal. However, the endro gave me the samples and a scipt - her feeling was to elevate the thyroid function for a few months may get rid of the nodules. I am not going back to her because after three visits and ridiculous numbers of tests she forgot on my third visit why I was seeing her - I had to remind her about the propecia, libido issues, and testicles shriking to raisins!

Anyway, some who have been hypo have seen some results using thyroid medication -kind of shocking their system. Should I take the meds and see - or is this a waste of time?

Those are your numbers without being on the synthoird? If those tests are what your body is producing naturally it wouldnt make sense to go on synthetic T4. Dropping those numbers down could make you hyper.

I am hypo and for what its worth I have been on the proper amount of thyroid medication(have had the dosage changed multiple times though) prior to and after taking propecia, I still have PFS over two years after discontinuing propecia.

Yes, these are the numbers not on any Thyroid medicattions. In the past my T4 number has been lower (while on propecia)

If it is clearly apparent that you have the symptoms of hypothyroidism you may want to to talk to Dr. Jacobs about having thyroid resistance, I believe this is extremely rare though.

From what I have read it seems TSH supression therapy for benign nodules seems to be a controversial therapy. It would probably be a good idea to get a second opinion before you decide to go on the t4 because that is normally a lifelong treatment.

I started the following regimen 12 days ago:

DHT gel Andractim 1serving per day
Euthyral (Synth T4+ T3) everyday
Progesterone 2-3 days a week

My anti-aging doc prescribed it for 2 month.

Good points: better energy, Much much less constipation, better focus, more alertness, just getting up once per night for urinating instead of 3-4 times (DHT is good for the prostate), and no more dribbling of urine after the last shot. More appettite.:::dick regained more size when flaccid. Still the same on “erection”.

Bad points:

Still 0 libido, 0 genital sensisitivity and miserable erections. Definitely very, very poor, soft and little morning wood.

dht is not good for the prostate. Its what causes the prostate to become inflammed and enlarge. Hence, why fin was invented…

That’s what we were taught, but I’m afraid this is a big misconception, like there are so many others in the mainstream medical field, please take a look at this:

mesomorphosis.com/articles/arnold/dht.htm

this is another big fear mongering lie from pharmaceutical companies that DHT is not good. They claim like God has made many flaws in his creations and they know better than him and now trying to correct his mistakes. God did not create it purposeless. IT is absolutely very necessary, Especially when we have seen the results of blocking it.
Please don’t write any thing which you are not sure 100%. DHT is bad, cholesterol is bad will kill you etc etc are big lies from these pharmaceutical companies. They only need to be looked at under certain conditions otherwise they are needed 100% for our good health.

sps

There is no god, but let me rephrase… DHT inflames the prostate. We are not flawless creatures (organisms), which is why some ppl do have enlarged prostates. Do you think “god” created mentally retarded ppl too? Come on now, but i’m not going to try to get into any type of argument with you. When cholesterol goes out of control then yes it is bad for you. As i said before we are flawless creatures, so not everything about our bodies is perfect. Same goes for hair loss. It’s a genetic defect which says we are not perfect and things can be disturbed in our bodies, which is why we are all in this situation that we are in.

thanks

Actually hair loss is not a genetic defect, it is merely the perception of society, mostly men, that hair loss is a bad thing. Believe it or not there are some women that find bald men sexy.

Something i wish i had realized when i was younger was that whilst hair may make you look “prettier”, trying to hide the fact your hair line is receding merely shows people how insecure you are. A shaved head demonstrates confidence and maturity, both are high on a women’s list of desirable qualities.

just because some woman find it attractive does not mean it is not a genetic defect. It is indeed one. People are not suppose to be bald…

In order for something to be considered a genetic “defect” it must by definition result in some sort of illness or disease. Something that is completely superficial, especially something that occurs in a significant percentage of the population, is not a genetic defect. Again, this is merely how you perceive it. Why are we not meant to go bald? Even if i could have my hair back now i wouldn’t want it, i like shaving my head, it’s part of what makes me an individual.

Technically, you are right. Hair loss is NOT a genetic defect.

But it helps us understand what is going on with our hormones. Why didn’t we lose our hair when we were younger? The reason is that our hormones back then were different. In particular, progesterone was a lot higher. The mechanism is explained here: musclechatroom.com/forum/content.php?121-baldness-and-prostate-101.

Note that many PFS sufferers have hair loss but no libido. This is not caused, as someone says, by androgen hypersensitivity (we should also be hyper horny if that was the case), but it’s caused by too low progesterone and too high E2 (in terms of ratio between them, and not of absolute values). For example, my hair loss continued post-fin, but then stopped once I increased progesterone. Unfortunately my freeT is still low and so is my libido. But my experience confirms what the link says about progesterone.

Toadstool, this is simply incorrect. DHT is NECESSARY FOR PROSTATE FUNCTION. Without DHT your prostate wouldn’t grow and you couldn’t have prostate function or get an erection. DHT IS WHAT MAKES MEN MEN. DHT doesn’t INFLAME the prostate, the prostate becomes ENLARGED in some people and it’s associated with too much DHT.

um, I never said it wasnt?
