Story of 7 years Proscaar

Consulted my GP many years ago for baldness. Adviced to take Proscaar. Ever since (about 7years) i took my daily 1,25mg tablett. Today i found out about this site in relation to get prepared for third plastic surgery in my face. The scars of former surgial procedures did not heal correctly, causing deep dehiscent scars, which are looking very ugly. In addition i found out about different health problems adding up in the course of the years: thick face, depression, anxiety, compulsory behavior by scratching skin, poor libido, poor erection, mental slowness, bad social abilities, pain in legs while jogging, not getting better in exercise, many more problems.

The next surgical procedure in my face by correcting long dehiscent ugly scars over the eyebrows is planned in 4 days. What should i do? Stop taking Proscaar imediately and doing surgery in 4 days ?

Get off the drug. If you plan to continue on it, this is not the forum for you.

Thank you very much for answering,
just today i found out about this site and now i´m sure about to stop immediately. would you please tell me your opinion about ongoing proscaar application and wound healing after skin surgery?

If you are planning to quit then why are you concerned about Proscar usage after surgery?

Do a search for wound healing on the forum.

In short, I personally experienced significant issues with slowed wound healing while on the drug. What was a simple scratch turned into an abscess which required triple the dose of antibiotics to kill off the bacteria, which was very puzzling for the docs. This occured when I was on the drug. After quitting I have not had any issues related to wound healing.

Thank you very much,
i stopped taking Proscaar today (last pill yesterday). Still i´m afraid of again getting problems with bad wound healing in relation to another surgical procedure, which is planned 4 days ahead. Probably something like a reflex-dht-elevation might delay healing and leed to scarring (medline-publication about dht-delay of wound healing). Or do you think it might be possible, that 4 days without Proscar pre-surgery is o.k. ?

It will take more than 4 days for DHT to start coming back… more like 7-10 minimum.

Your decision if you want to undergo surgery within this timeframe.

I just do not find any linkage of Finasteride to bad wound healing at all. This MedLine-article says dht retards wound closure, so i resume finasteride helps wound healing by suppressing dht. what do you think?
