still not losing hair

been off propecia for 3 years, still no sign of any hair loss, anyone else in the same boat?

I guess a lot of people, wanna loose hair go low carb to complete some aromasin.

none whatsoever but I keep hoping it will fall out again…

I have been off for 1.5 years, the whole time I was expecting my hair to start falling out again, even looking for it as a possible sign of a recovery of sorts.

I will say this, since I’ve recently started taking Vitamin D, I have noticed hair loss similar to pre-Fin levels. It is still too early to tell what effects the Vit. D supplementation will have over time, if any, other than hair loss (and there is a slight chance my hair loss may be attributed to alcohol consumption, which increases 5AR activity).

I’ll post again once more time has gone by under Vit. D supplementation.

I’ve never heard that alcohol increases 5ar activity. What type of alcohol are you refering to (hopefully not beer as it increases estrogen). Do you have a link on 5ar vs alcohol connection?

It’s possible he meant alcohol increases Allopregnanolone synthesis, which is a 5AR-derived neurosteroid that acts on GABA-A in the brain to make you feel relaxed when you drink (amongst other actions).

Thanks Mew…but not sure I really understand…based on your response would you think that alcohol consumption might help, and if so what type of alcohol? The last time I drank an excessive amout of beer it was a disaster from a gonads standpoint…

In my opinion I would avoid alcohol – it is estrogenic, inhibits Testosterone production, and strains the liver.

I didn’t mean to suggest it as a form of treatment, certainly alcohol has it’s own problems, and temporarily increasing 5AR isn’t guaranteed to be a positive thing, but I thought it was known on here that there is probably a link between alcohol and 5AR (I think Mew had even posted a study I remember reading a long time ago). The day following heavy or moderate drinking, I tend to get very oily skin and hair, I also feel very different, much more similar to pre-fin when I am drinking. I remember there was a conversation thread in here where people were linking alcohol to fin, we talked about how when we were on fin, alcohol’s effects were more difficult to feel, and how that was the time we felt most “normal” while on fin. In the meantime:

Just as an aside. I remember that while on Finasteride and before after a night of heavy drinking I was horny as a bag of fucking rams, seriously.

I remember having conversations with my other co-workers (when I used to work at a restaurant) about how horny we/us were those mornings. I have abstained from any sort of heavy drinking after my relapse of symptoms.

However, when the relapse first occurred I would selfmedicate with alcohol and obviosuly just made everything worse. There wasn’t a sensation of horniness the next morning… for what it is worth…

Ok, I think this may be the thread I was referring to. The thread may not speak specifically about 5AR, but I have encountered studies that show a relationship between these two, have already posted a couple, will see if I have more:

Here is another thread that seems to talk about alcohol and post-fin:

Interesting posts gcac…looks like most of the stuff quoted that’s good for 5AR is bad for you (cadmium, pesticides, cigarettes, and alcohol). Just our luck again.
