your at the wrong place if you still care about hair loss. Please only post here if you are experiencing a significant MENTAL or PHYSICAL ISSUE not a cosmetic one. this is a place for people with MEDICAL ISSUES. hair loss is now TRIVIAL to us. Thank you!
The drug is a poison drug. I took the drug for a number of years and then decided to quit. I had quit the drug for about 7 months and then I foolishly began taking it again.
bostonusa: how long did you stay on it when you returned to it?
I’m not 100% of the exact amount of time, but guessing I would say maybe a year and half. Again, I had a ton of issues when on it. Now looking back on it I became full blown hypogonadal when I quit, then it pretty much stayed the same when I went back on it.
I am far from perfect now, but I am a ton better than I was more than a year ago. Still trying to get my sex drive back and normal functioning in this department.
I quit once after about 1 year because I went to ER with some sort of panic attack in the middle of the night and just stopped everything I was doing/taking. Looking back, i had symptoms on it, but not once off it, but had not connected the dots and and after several weeks went back on it. Also ran out for several days and was off at one point. This stopping/starting may be part of my issue as well. but I guess I will never know. When I was off for a couple of weeks and returned to normal, this underscored in my mind that the side I knew about. ED & GYNO must, in fact, be temporary. I actually chased the brain fog and fatigue as separate and unrelated issues and never correlated them to FIN till much much later
.
My GYNO has never gone way…It’s been 8 hours…After i get my erectile functioning back 100% i intend on getting the gyno fixed.
8 hours…that’s a long time lol. I stopped and started in 08 and recovered pretty much fully before going on again within a couple of months, didn’t corelate symptoms with the drug. Big mistake.
I also started and stopped. I remember being much, much better after stopping the first time. But after the second time, well, not so much. Biggest mistake of my life.
i really appreciate this advice.
so the brain fog went away? and any advice for the sex drive? (I just got back from the doctor and my testosterone is low (7, and 213) and I’m a little freaked)
questionguy:
how long did the brain fog and fatigue last?
Can you say the “tons of issues” you had while back on it? Did ANYTHING (other than hair) get better when you did that? Thanks man.
If we can’t recover from the side effects anyway, why not just get back on the drug and at least maintain the hair?
I don’t know about you, but even though I’m not 100% now, I’m closer to it then I ever was on the drug. Not to mention the completely depressed and hopeless feelings I had while taking it. I think you are insane for even considering it after all you’ve learned from this site. I’m mean to even think that, man…pull it together.
i can’t believe anyone could even consider the idea of going back on the drug… Fanjeera come on man, hasn’t this experience taught you anything about vanity?
i shave my head now and you know what, i love it! i seriously think it looks great. it makes me feel masculine and i never have to waste time thinking about how my hair looks, cause i know it looks good, even if i’ve just gotten out of bed.
here’s something to think about: nobody thinks a bald man looks ridiculous, what looks ridiculous is an insecure guy trying to hide the fact that he’s going bald with a “not fooling anybody” hairstyle or a bad rug/plugs.
shave it off, then give yourself some time to adjust to the idea and you’ll wonder what the hell all the fuss was about.

If we can’t recover from the side effects anyway, why not just get back on the drug and at least maintain the hair?
Fanjeera you clutter up the board with inane one liners when you are virtually recovered and now this. You should just go away and live your life.
Incredible. Thing is, Fanjeera has an abnormal sperm test with 99% sperm defunct. I’ve pm’ed him some excellent literature on how Mesterolone and other DHT derivatives cause the maturation of individual spermatozoa, and how he could thus be deficient in DHT.
I have had no reply of thanks or even any recognition for the effort I took trying to help a seemingly infertile 18 year old. I actually lay awake one night trying to figure out a cause for his infertility, I got up and researched it on medical literature sites for 2 hours at 3am. Then I posted him the research.
Now he wants to start Finasteride again.
Some people are stupid. He’s one of them. He’s added nothing apart from spraying this website with verbal diarrhoea. He’s a fool and I hope he goes away.
JN

Is this just stupid?
Yes.
No one considers this here because finasteride is the source of the damage. A number of people have tried, to see no positive results. And why would they - they’re stripping their bodies of androgen and causing all sorts of inhibitions and complications to the HPTA. We like to work with the facts rather than think by magically taking it again, the symptoms will disappear. They won’t.

I don’t understand why I haven’t found any information on the possibility of reversing all the post finasteride syndrome effects by just restarting propecia. Is this just stupid? In my case I stopped just because I felt my sex drive go down but at least I could still get erections easily, now I’m suffering from all the sexual dysfunction symptomes of the syndrome. Does this mean if I hadn’t stop taking propecia and just used it the rest of my life - I could have never gotten these side affects?
youngbuck21,
Your theory won’t work. There are dozens of stories of men on this site who initially quit and decided to go back on it including myself. I actually believe it will more liekly make things worse to go back on, by further confusing the bodies hormonal production.
There are a distinct set of symptoms that start with many men when they quit the drug, however there are dozens of side effects that occur when you’re on the medication. Not of all of them happen immediately either. I have no idea how long you were on the medication. I can tell you personal experience that I got more and more side effects as time on the medication increased. Although looking back you might be thinking the side effects were minor, more than likely they would have gotten worse over time and you would have gotten new ones as well.
has anyone actually TRIED restarting propecia?? curious to know how they fanned out!
Lock this crap up
With the final words being… if you do this you are an idiot
^agree
The only real positive alot of us can say is that we are not taking Fin anymore.
