I am 38 years old and have always had a full head of hair. About 6 months ago my hair started falling out quickly and diffusly across most of my scalp.
I became worried and searched the internet for a solution. I read about propecia and the potential dangers of taking it. I decided not to take the chance and took saw palmetto instead, thinking it was a safe alternative.
After about 2 months I noticed that my erections were not has solid, but didnt think much about it. Then one day I couldn’t get it up at all. This really scared me. I thought could this be from the SP? Or maybe it was a result of an anti depresent I was on (SRI). To be safe stopped taking the SP.
After doing some research i concluded that I was on a very high dose 1080 mg/day (recommended dose on the bottle). After about a week things returned to normal
My question is this, If I developed sides from SP would I be just as likely to develop sides from propecia, since they both act in a similar way?

Extremely likely. Any substance which inhibits 5AR2/DHT etc, whether man-made or natural, has the potential to cause issues if you are susceptible to them. Problem is, there are no tests to tell you beforehand if you will experience side effects, or persistence of side effects, before using such substances.
That said, if you plan to take Finasteride, this is not the forum for you.
Supressing 5AR2/DHT is a bad idea, period. It’s there for a reason. Shave your head, no one that matters will care. Or, take the chance that one morning you will wake up and your penis will have shrunk by 50%. That is exactly what happened to me and others here. I cannot put into words the regret that we all deal with on a daily basis from taking 5AR2 inhibitors.

you are extremely lucky. Now when God has given you a second life forget about hairloss. Just dont take anything or it will be a cry for the rest of your life.
