Should I start taking this at age 18?

Hello I am 18 soon to be 19 and I have been taking propecia for 6 months, despite some side effects I am very worried about my rapid hair loss (which i’m not sure if propecia is stopping.)
Anyway my doctor seems to think i’m ok to take it, however I have a couple of worries:
-I can’t grow a beard yet! Just a couple of stray hairs before I started taking propecia. I think my doctor thinks its genetic but my father has a full beard (and no hair on his head lol)
-Im very skinny (probably a genetic issue)
-I have a relatively high voice

  • size of gentleman vegtables which has been the same since i was 16ish but still somewhat lacking! could be genetic but could my taking propecia stop any further development if its likley?
  • I have a young face, will propecia keep me looking much younger than i actually am?

Sorry to burden you with my rather random worries, and I thank anyone who responds in advance!

1. First of all, please learn to read what this site is about. The title is:

PROPECIAHELP: Unresolved Finasteride Propecia Proscar side effects info & forum

Forum for men with PERSISTANT sexual, mental & physical side effects which CONTINUE DESPITE QUITTING hair loss & prostate drug Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar)

2. Please read the WARNINGS on the homepage:

NOTICE:

  1. THIS IS NOT A HAIRLOSS FORUM – this forum is for men that QUIT Finasteride and are still experiencing side effects. If you have questions about taking Finasteride for hairloss, please visit hairloss websites.

  2. If you are CONSIDERING or CURRENTLY taking Finasteride, please DO NOT post on www.propeciahelp.com – again, this forum is specifically for men who already QUIT the drug and have yet to experience resolution of their side effects.

3. Please read the sticky post at the top of the QUESTIONS forum:

WARNING TO THOSE ON, OR CONSIDERING STARTING FINASTERIDE… AND POSTING ON PROPECIAHELP.COM

4. Please read the FAQ at top of site:

  1. Now understand that since you are actively taking Finasteride, this is NOT THE FORUM FOR YOU. If you quit the drug and end up having ongoing side effects months or years after, THEN THIS IS THE FORUM FOR YOU.

If the concern for your hair outweighs the concerns for your health, you will not listen to anything negative anyone tells you about the drug. If you do not intend to quit the drug, leave now as there is no reason for you to post here, and stick to hairloss sites.

Your doctor is an idiot prescribing this to someone so young, doubly so if they are a dermatologist because they make money off of prescribing this medication while downplaying it’s potential side effects. Use your head and THINK logically about what you are risking by taking this medication.

Prescribing this drug to a young man still in his teenage, developing years is simply insane and could be causing long lasting damage which may or may not manifest for years to come, if it hasn’t already caused you problems.

You are taking ANDROGEN DEPRIVATION THERAPY and inhibiting numerous vital processes in your body by taking Finasteride. Have you had a read through the Finasteride Studies section yet? Do yourself a favor and do so: propeciahelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8

Get bloodtests per propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92 … and get off the drug, preferably by cutting dosage and spacing out days you are taking it.

But if you have no intentions of getting off the drug, do not bother to post here.

Hi thanks for the quick response.
I just assumed from the website URL that this was the place to ask my question, sorry about that. I understand this isn’t the forum for me right now but if you would make another post telling me how best to get off propecia it would be much appreciated.

I am prepared to accept my hairloss and stop taking propecia considering the risks, which appear to be many. I am ready to just stop taking it altogether (normal 1mg a day dose) but you say I should reduce the dosage first. How exactly should I proceed and over what time period?
I don’t want the bloodtests at this stage because I haven’t been experienceing serious side effects apart from minor weight gain.

Thank you for your support, I just hope I haven’t been seriously affected.

I think Mew would suggest for you to stop altogether, as Propecia has a flat dose response (differing dosages = all have same result).

Read FAQ at top of site, it has info on quitting.

Read the FAQ, section about blood tests. If something should go drastically wrong after quitting, you’ll have bloodwork to compare against while you were on it, which could help identify where the problem areas are.
