Should I make the trip to see Dr. Shippen?

As a new member, I am considering on making an appointment with Dr. Shippen for a couple of months from now. I have seen his name referenced a number of times by other members recognizing him as one of the few informed about PFS. His office claims that he has had material success with half of the patients he has treated. If that were the case, I am assuming that I would see more related posts about members improving through his treatment. However, I do not.

Before I make the trip and incur the expense, I was hoping that a few members could lead me in one direction or another. In other words, he has been more successful in treating patients and see him if I can or I would be just as well off if not better trying to find a local endocrinologist, assuming that he has some familiarity with PFS (I know that’s difficult).

Many thanks for any advice that you can offer.

Boston332 is the best person to speak to, he has seen both Dr. Shippen and also Dr. Jacobs, who, seeing as you are in New Jersey, would be a closer option for you. Good Luck.

Thanks mariobros (on both accounts). I will do that. Good luck to you, too.

I would choose Chrisler if it were me. Just my personal opinion. They are both very good doctors and they share information as well, So you know both of them are not caught up in the ego game.

I don’t really see it makes a difference if you’re talking Shippen vs. Crisler. Both seem to use similar treatment and as bostonusa said, they do share information and it seems they have a pretty good relationship. Be prepared to pay. In PFS medicine its pay upfront and I don’t think any of them work with insurance. When I saw Shippen last year I asked him if I was gonna be like this forever. He just looked at me and smiled and said we all ask that. We all know stuff like that is hard to hear, especially in the beginning. Keep your expectations within reason whatever you choose. Definately see a doc but remember we have a condition for which there is no cure at the moment.
