Serious eye pain

Hey guys, I’m a 22 year old Canadian who got early hair loss. I’d been taking finasteride (proscar) for about 6 months, with the only side effect being oilier skin. I noticed an increase in zits, but it wasn’t a big deal.

Anyways, I introduced minoxidil (rogaine) into my “regimen” and about one week later started getting serious, serious eye pain in my right eye whenever I attempted to focus on anything up close. It feels like whatever muscle in my eye that changes the depth of field for my vision is screwy, and I get a stabbing pain in the back of my eye when I focus. This came out of absolutely nowhere. I immediately stopped applying rogaine after a grand total of just 7 days, but the eye problem persisted. A guy over on the hair loss talk forums told me that this could possibly be a Fin side effect.

I went to see both an optometrist and a general practitioner, both of whom told me the Finasteride could not possibly be the problem, but also couldn’t tell me what was wrong with my eye. I am currently waiting for a referral to see an opthamologist about my problem.

I stopped taking the fin about three weeks ago now, as a precaution, but the problem has persisted. I’m just here wondering if any of you had heard of this eye problem? I’ve heard people mention “dry eye” and “red eye” but my eye is neither dry nor red. It just feels like my eye has a serious pulled muscle, if that makes sense. Has anyone had experience with my particular problem in relation to finasteride?

thanks a ton for reading this, I want to get to the bottom of this problem.

Maybe show that to your eye doctor next time he thinks androgen deprivation can’t affect the eyes.

Yes, your ocular muscles respond similar to others but most likey get more strain as they constantly work so eye pain can be one of the areas where this first shows up.
