Sam-e

I am surprised that no one has posted about this supplement yet. Based on my research, it sounds like it could have positive effects in alleviating some of the mental and cognitive issues that occur with PFS.

Not only does it help regulate neurotransmitters, but it also has a positive effect on liver health and reducing inflammation. There are some theories floating around this site that some of the issues may be caused by inflammation (and therefore that us why ibuprofen helps many), and also quite a few posts about liver function playing a role (see milk thistle ideas). Sam-e seems like something that may contribute to all three areas, so I figure it is worth a shot!.

I started taking 200mg twice a day yesterday. Supposedly its benefits occur much faster than many prescription antidepressants, so I will keep everyone updated over the next week or two.

Here is some additional information.

Look forward to hearing your updates!

id be very very careful and get dna tested bfore you start taking sam-e. sam-e plays a part in methylation… i dk the exact details of where sam-e plays a part, but i can tell you someoen over at the sexual exhuastion forum took sam-e and felt better for 2 weeks, then crashed and felt much worse. we dont have “sexual exhaustion”, but curiously they have discovered they have methylation problems… similar to awor’s research.

just a heads up.

Thanks for the advice.

I’m now not sure sam-e was a good decision. After 3 days, I am experiencing increased brain fog and mental sides have been increased. I’m extremely jittery and just plain uncomfortable. Basically, it seemed to just magnify the symptoms i was already experiencing. I had to leave work early today because i was so out of it.

I had never heard of the methylization concept before so I did some research on it today. Has anyone on this forum had their histamine levels checked? My symtpomns seem to match more with overmethylization, and subsequently, low histamine…

Man, there are so many different things it seems that can cause our brain fog. It is frustrating. I haven’t felt mentally “relaxed” in almost a year. Really wish i would have stopped the propecia back then before waiting 9 more months to come to my senses.

I’m starting to think this fog and constant feeling of mental discomfort will never go away.
