Psuedo Cushing Syndrome into Adrenal Fatigue

Many people who come off fin notice brain fog which they later say resolves, but a great many other symptoms remain, and others pop up. I have read repeatedly that symptoms of adrenal fatigue (shown by low cortisol) are common (is this common in longer term sufferers whose brain fog has resolved?).

I am currently experiencing symptoms of high cortisol (I will have a 6x saliva cortisol test completed by next week to confirm), including horrible insomnia and brain fog. I can’t find the website, but I recently read that the adrenal glands will first OVER produce cortisol in response to the stress we have caused to our bodies, but when they can no longer handle the elevated stress level, they basically give out and cortisol will fall leading the adrenal fatigue. This explains the resolution of brain fog and insomnia issues with long term sufferers.

Brainfogboy posted about how he believes the liver is damaged, and (I believe this is what he was saying, he wasn’t too specific) it fails to convert T4 to T3 giving us energy. This is the source of stress that triggers the Psuedo-Cushing’s (the elevated cortisol) that eventually leads to adrenal fatigue. Psuedo-Cushing’s (PC) can be explained by liver damage, as another common source of PC is alcoholism, though the symptoms of PC disappear shortly after the person stops drinking.

I am having a complete thyroid panel done with results coming today or Monday which will show whether or not anything is odd in my thyroid hormones. This could confirm liver damage, or some sort of thyroid dysfunction thus leading to all of the above. Of course, there are 100 ways this stress could have been caused to our bodies, so thyroid problems is a bit of a shot in the dark. I do have some symptoms of hypothyroidism (specifically, cold feet and temperature problems), so it is possible. I shall report back.

I have top of range blood cortisol and low free / siliva cortisol.
