PSA: Merck is responsible for proliferating some of the most dangerous drugs in history

And apparently this company was founded in the 1600’s. The monster we’re dealing with is ancient by corporate standards - it predates capitalism itself.

Heinrich Emanuel Merck created morphine, eventually manufacturing heroin, and in the 1800’s Merck had a monopoly on cocaine manufacturing. It also mass-produced strychnine.

Considering all of this, the Vioxx and Propecia scandals should really come as no surprise. I wonder what other drugs made by them are currently causing people to suffer? I guess the moral of the story is stay the fuck away from anything made by Merck. That includes Remeron, by the way, for all of you considering using an antidepressant to boost allopregnanalone levels (which I wouldn’t recommend anyway).

Maybe making an app that identifies which drugs were developed by Merck would be a good idea, like the apps that help people avoid Nestle and Monsanto. Of course, public awareness of how ugly Merck’s history is would be necessary for that be effective.

They are also responsible for the MMR vaccine which has been linked to brain damage in children and all sorts of health conditions. Originally it was only one vaccine at a time which is essentially a virus but it was seen as inefficient so they piled in 3 vaccines into one with it given to children as young as 12 months old. They actually passed a law named National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act that stops people from suing the pharmaceutical companies holding them accountable if their child gets injured that tells you all you need to know.
