Also, does the big molecular grade study look at 5AR and DHT receptor gene expression? At least this way we can find out if mutation/down-regulation is the source of our troubles? Iām having a hard time finding the page for the study, can someone send it to be please?
Dgreene, you might be OK with some time. Try to keep calm and maybe try your best to put it to the back of your mind at least for a month or two. I was the same when i first joined, and still am really.
The study is coming in good time. The results are likely only a week or two away so try and be patient, there is little point in speculation at this point. If the study reveals something, then weāll be able to look at different treatment strategies. If the study doesnāt reveal anything, then weāll need to look elsewhere.
I can assure you you are not unique in these regards.
Has there been any talk in terms of gene therapy? If results show a mutated/downregulated gene then I feel gene therapy is our best option at this point. But I dont know how soon it can be applied to our situation.
You are getting way ahead of yourself. Just wait for the results.
Dgreene, i hate to break it to you mate, but it sounds like you are probably screwed like the rest of us!
Best thing you could do now is to try clear your head, sit down and draw up a plan of action to put your life together again. Itās a painfully slow process, but I personally believe that it is possible, much to the dismay of most people on the forum.
The only other advice I have is donāt read anything MartinM says
It is early days yet for him, he could find significant improvement in comings weeks or months. Dgreene, this is obviously weighinh heavily on your mind, perhaps its best to take a break from the site and see how things go for you over time. In meantime maybe get bloodwork to see where your hormones are at.
Mew, I agree with you. Iām going to take a break from this site. But I just want you to check this out. If indeed we have āpermanentā damage, I feel as though there may be hope for us within the decade.
That is for type 1 diabetes - an illness that affects millions worldwide. Do you honestly think there going to hand out gene therapy to āpost finasterideā sufferers? come off it man.
This is an idea worth trying, well atleast finding some way of testing 5a-dht in the prostate.
Has anyone talked about this with their doctor?
I dont know if its the kind of thing a doctor would deal with. He would probably just order you a dht blood test.
Is there such a thing as a prostate biopsy and would that show it, at the very least you would need someone who specialised in the prostate, and not some snake oilier like dr g.
I donāt know, possibly? I think they take biopsies when they test for breast cancer so maybe they do for prostate cancer? This would be interesting to see and maybe something we should consider if there is another study in the future. I posted a link that someone posted a year ago about androgens reviving rat prostates after treating them with finasteride.
maybe stem cells?
I havenāt posted on here in a while but Iām off Propecia after 10+ years on. While still on the drug my doctor told me that my prostate was tiny due to the drug. Iāve never had any major erectile/libido problems but I do suspect my prostate causes some issues. I have noticed that after a very intense orgasm (which typically involves a big night with the wife) my overall mood, erection quality, and general feeling of well being are improved for about a week. If I go a few weeks without an intense orgasm my libido fades and i get a dull ache in my prostate region. Masturbating is not intense enough to make me feel better. Itās almost as if a strong orgasm normalizes my hormones or something for a while.
As an aside, I no longer have brain fog and I now get morning wood 1-2x per week (these were my major reasons for quitting). My hair has thinned but not too badly and it seems to have stabilized (not sure if thatās good or bad).
So you did not have any sides?
this is interesting and now you have recovered. Are you on any supp or vitamins? your case is very different from almost all of us. Most of us are getting worse over time unless we uses some supp/vitamins.
I had sides - I stopped getting morning/spontaneous erections, stopped dreaming, and (worst of all for me) got brain fog. These effects set in around year 8 on the drug. My urologist also said my prostate is tiny so I assume that is a side effect as well.
After quitting I get morning erections although I still dont get spontaneous erections. Brain fog is gone (thank god). I now have some prostate issues that come and go. It feels like my prostate is easily fatigued - more than one strong orgasm in a day and I will get some pain in the area.
It sounds like you made a pretty decent recovery there MLB, although i am sure the prostate issues are unpleasant.
Has there been any follow up to this? Has anyone injected DHT into the prostate?
