Prostate Grown From Adult Stem Cell

Interesting article, it seems they prostate has dormant stem cells with a quite remarkable ability to regenerate. I thought this was some positive news in regards to our condition.

In mice, the researchers were able to make individual prostate stem cells grow into new prostates. The same kind of cells can be found in humans…The identification of single cells capable of generating an entire organ, they note, “has important implications for tissue repair and regrowth”…CD117 prostate stem cells can generate functional, secretion-producing prostates when transplanted," Gao and colleagues report.

Just throwing this out, but do we know that any of us have actually had cell death in the prostate? I’ve had numerous periods of recovery which couldn’t happen if the prostate was dead. I’m more apt to think that the cells are not being properly filled causing imbalances in the sodium/potassium/water balance which is controlled by hormonal messengers.

Wow, a positive thread!

I also remember a study where a lab regrew a penis on a rabbit from stem cells if I’m recalling correctly. Very promising.

You have to wonder (and be pretty pissed off) where we (medicine in general and PFS sufferers) would be if stem cell research had been allowed 20 yrs ago and not bogged down in silly politics.

Thanks for you’re continuing reserach, Mario. Even Jacobs said he got his epigentic theory from a paper submitted to him by someone here on the forum. We need more people who can doing this.

I’m not saying that we do have prostate cell death, although it has been suggested before and it is well known that involution of the prostate via programmed cell death is one of finasterides main uses. I just thought it was an interesting article to share.

Found this interesting site that lists the current research done with regards to treating ED with stem cells. The place is in the Phillipines and specializes in stem cell therapy.
