According to this website, there are studies that have linked propecia use with prostate cancer. Have any of you been diagnosed with prostate cancer? If so, please provide us with the details. Thank you.
Lawfirm? If not, why such an interest in this side effect?
It’s not that simple. Finasteride appears to lessen the risk of small (non-life-threatening) tumors and POSSIBLY increase the risk of high-grade (deadly) tumors (although there is a compelling argument to be made that the increase is due to easier detection since finasteride shrinks the prostate).
It is also worth noting that this data is based on older men taking finasteride for BPH. Taking finasteride for life starting at a young age may produce very different outcomes. Fin users take comfort in the fact that those with genetic 5AR2 deficiencies don’t develop prostate cancer (although i’ve never seen this documented in any meaningful way).
I personally worry that having been on the drug for a long time and then going off is the worst possible risk factor for the prostate…but it’s going to take a long time for the medical community to really understand what’s going on.
