Propecia Mentioned on Tosh.0

Okay, one of my favorite t.v. shows to watch is Tosh.0 where the host, Daniel Tosh, makes fun of just about anyone and everything. I’m not sure if he has used Propecia or not (from his comment near the end of this clip, I would think not) but I believe he has gone through some hair restoration as his first couple seasons feature some shots of him with a thinning and slightly receded hairline. Regardless of that, I thought it was interesting to hear him mention using Propecia in the not so typical fashion, by rubbing it on your chest (from the context I took it to make you less fertile).

I thought I would post this because his show is actually pretty well received and has a relatively large audience. Maybe just his one comment could have people asking more questions and that in and of itself could be helpful in getting the drug pulled. All right, hope you enjoy the sweet, ever-so-subtle dig at Merck.

Just watched clip - I think that it’s in relation to the potential harm that propecia can do to an unborn child, although as you say, anything in whatever form that gets anti-propecia awareness into the mainstream has to be a good thing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Merck actually paid them for this product placement.

There was an episode of Entourage where one of the characters threatened to kill himself by taking a whole bottle of Propecia. I’m pretty sure this was a product placement given the audience of the show is a very suitable marketing base for Propecia, and the vast majority of viewers would take it as a joke and simply a memory of Propecia would remain in their minds. Most people intuitively would not be as sensitive to us and might actually be more likely to pick up a prescription. Big pharma is notorious for pushing their drugs in very subtle and clever ways.

My take on it is that it sounded as if he was saying, “Put this on your body to ultimately harm/kill that fetus inside you.” Regardless of my own battle with PFS I recognized the mention as a Bad thing. There was no part of me that believed anything he suggested would be beneficial for anything Other Than harming the unborn child. If I had seen this when I was considering using Propecia I would have at least thought to ask my doctor why he might have said that. Or is it all just because it’s not safe for pregnant women to have? Ah, I’m just now remembering that women aren’t supposed to be handling it because it’s harmful to the fetus. Sorry, I thought it might’ve been a fertility issue but I now realize he was probably just remarking on the fact that women aren’t supposed to have it because it’s dangerous to unborn fetuses.

Propecia mentioned again on Tosh tonight. A fellow comedian, Greg Hahn, had left him an “insane voicemail” but claims he isn’t trying to be funny and asks Daniel, “Hey are we still taking this Propecia stuff? I’m reading the side effects. Doesn’t sound good to me. I’m coming off of it. Are you still taking it?”

please post the link

It would be the best thing (for us) if some major media figure got hit with PFS in a big way. I mean full blown crash including suicidal depression, panic attacks, insomnia, the whole 9 yards. They wouldn’t be able to operate and hopefully would throw a shit storm. I wouldn’t be surprised if some celeb has it already but odds are they just have the sexual sides which a lot of guys keep quite about. The most vocal people on here are historically those who get hit with mental sides badly. I’m sure it would the same for others.

I took a low quality video of the episode with my phone, but the episode doesn’t appear to be on the comedycentral website yet. Can I post the video on here? As in, are video uploads possible?

Use Youtube. Cheers.

Sound quality is kind of poor but luckily his phone call is subtitled. You should be able to hear it just fine if you turn your volume up though.

I just find it odd that it was the bit they did right before commercial. Obviously it wasn’t even particularly funny… it was just a mention of Propecia and its dangers.

Good mention, donkeyboy. I saw it as it aired and chuckled. I liked how he said “Propecia” at the very end of the message. The repetition and pausing before saying it, I would think, help cement a connotation of bad side effects and Propecia for other viewers. I also liked how it was Right before a commercial instead of right after where it could have been missed. Hoooopefully, this makes at least a few other guys out there more aware of the potential harm of the drug. I guess we’ll see.

E-mailed both of them (tosh and greg hahn) trying to ascertain what their interest is in discussing propecia side effects.

Tosh mentioned Propecia on his show another time last year. He was promoting the release of the Tosh.0 dvds, and he said something like “when you watch the earlier episodes you may be wondering why I look much balder. Thats because I wasnt a famous yet and couldnt afford the monthly cost of Propecia.”
So I guess he uses it. Sorry I don’t remember what episode it was so I cant post a youtube clip
