Propecia Lawsuits Rise 575% Year over Year…

According to Merck & Co.’s latest quarterly report (form 10-Q) for the period ended March 31, 2012:

“Approximately 540 lawsuits involving a total of approximately 760 plaintiffs” have been filed against the company, alleging “that they have experienced persistent sexual side effects following cessation of treatment with Propecia and/or Proscar.”

That makes for a rise in the number of lawsuits of about 40% over the previous financial quarter, and a rise of about 38% in the number of plaintiffs for the same period.

But year over year, those numbers become far steeper.

Comparing 2011 to 2012, there was a 335% rise in the number of plaintiffs, and a 575% rise in the number of lawsuits.
